It was the shout heard throughout the state of California when in early May their Supreme Court overturned the state's ban on gay marriage. Not only are the local residents excited about the opportunity to finally legalize their unions; a couple of our favorite celebs have announced wedding plans.
Emmy-award winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres announced on her show that she and Arrested Development's Portia de Rossi are getting married. As her audience cheered and gave both Ellen and Portia, sitting in the audience beaming happily and applauding with them, a standing ovation she says "It is something of course that we have wanted to do and we wanted to be legal, and we are just very, very excited."
George Takei was also on cloud 9 as he announced that he and his partner of more than 21 years Brad Altman, are getting married. The Heroes star posted on his website he and Altman, his business manager, have shared their lives for over 21 years and are overjoyed to be able to legally get married.
He goes on to say "No more 'separate but equal.' No more second-class citizenship. Brad and I are going to be married as full citizens of our state." George and Brad met at a gay men's running club in Los Angeles; he trained the Star Trek star for his first marathon. The newly engaged Takei can be seen in the new Adam Sandler comedy You Don't Mess with the Zohan, currently in theaters.
Congratulations to the happy couples and may you continue to enjoy spending the rest of your lives together.
The Norwoods vs. The Kardashians Part II
The Kardashian family is firing back at Sonja Norwood. Kim, her sisters Khloe and Kourtney along with brother Robert Jr., have filed a counter suit against Ray J's mother where the claim is the Kardashians abused her American Express card. Again, Sonja should have gotten the card back on the same say she allowed them to use it on that fateful day in 2004.
According to Access Hollywood, having a copy of the Kardashian's filing, the family is denying all claims made by Norwood. They feel any loss or damages suffered weren't their fault but that of Brandy's mother. She was negligent with the own card by not making one simple move. Truth be told she should own up to some responsibility in this; it was her card.
The file states the Kardashians are asking for a judge to refrain from granting Sonja any amount and give the reality show family "further relief as the Court deems just and proper."
In her filing, Norwood is asking for over $1 million. This is about being responsible for your own. You should never be too busy to make sure you've gotten your card back. As stated in another piece (The Norwoods vs. The Kardashians, March 5, 2008), she should have cancelled the card and have AmEx reissue a new card for her. Not to mention reporting the first unauthorized charge. To let the charges grow to such an amount makes her look irresponsible; she should have called them about the card. It just doesn't make sense for someone who is viewed as a take charge woman to make such a slip. Now she wants Kim and her siblings to pay for it.
Hopefully everyone involved in the situation can resolve this and cut communications all together because it looks like Sonja's a bit bored. Maybe she should call Ryan Seacrest and get a reality show. It seems to be the thing for those that are too self absorbed to get a real job. She sure isn't trying to launch anything so she wouldn't fit in there; but that topic's for another time.
