The article's popularity reflects, I think the common misunderstandings and misconceptions that abound about male rape. And though the article is obviously well read very few people have left comments, or indeed contacted me.
One fine fellow who did contact me was thanking me for my recognition of the pressing and important issue of male rape. He was a victim and he was setting up some web resources to help other victims.
Though what has prompted me to write this second, and shorter article is a comment recently left on the AC website. A fellow calling himself Steven has chosen to advertise the fact that he is looking for a woman who can, as he puts it, "actually rape him". He seems keen and eager and has left contact details. I imagine that when the powers of administration at AC spot this they may actually remove his (inappropriate) comment.
I say inappropriate as the reader seems unable to grasp the reality and gravity of male rape. Though he claims to be tempting it I doubt he would enjoy being subjected to the humiliation, desperation and powerlessness that inevitably accompanies the act whether it is being perpetrated against a woman or a man.
His comment is disturbing and displays an inability to understand the total awfulness of male rape. It also demonstrates an inability to understand the abuses of power that can occur in relationships.
Steven seems to think that rape is about sex. It is not about sex per se; it is the perpetration of misuse of interpersonal power played out on a sexually based playing field. Rape is never about sex. It is about the violation of another human being. Steven's sexual fantasies about being 'taken' by dominating women are of an entirely different nature.
Perhaps sometime in the future I will interview a victim of male rape for the purposes of publishing an article on this site.
Keep posted.

Post a Commentexactly theresa :-)
I think Steven is looking for consensual sex. If he had been awakened in the middle of the night by a serial rapist with a knife pointed at his throat, he might reconsider his views on rape.
Continued good work.
Ah dina - you have now tuched on another issue - which is how the police might act. now this is fodder for research and another article in the future.
Interesting topic for sure, seems very unlikely, but nevertheless, as you said said rape is not sex, and its not a gender issue. Men i assume would feel as women do, if i spoke out would it go to a actual charge or some disciplinary actions:.
