20 Easy Ways to Cut Calories

Lisa Harvey
Losing weight doesn't just mean changing what you eat and how much you eat. You also need to change your lifestyle so you can lose the weight and keep it off. Here are some tips for cutting calories without giving up some of your favorite foods.

1. Try using low-fat 1% or non fat milk instead of whole milk. You'll still get the calcium your body needs and save
calories at the same time.

2. Using smaller bowls and plates will make it easier to control your portions.

3. When eating out split your meal and dessert with a friend. You will be less tempted to overeat. You could
ask your friend if they mind splitting the cost of the meal. This way you will both save money.

4. Try turkey bacon instead of regular bacon. You can also replace ground beef with ground turkey. I have
used ground turkey in spaghetti and chili. It tastes great!

5. Use egg whites in your scrambled eggs and omelets. You can also buy egg substitutes at the grocery store.
I think egg substitutes are very hand. You just pour out the amount you need.

6. Use more vegetables than meat in omelets, pitas and casseroles.

7. Try low-calorie spray butter or butter sprinkles instead of your regular butter.

8. Instead of using butter and oil for cooking use cooking spray. You will still get great taste but
without all of the calories.

9. When making sandwiches or salads use fat-free or light mayonnaise.

10. Try light whole wheat bread instead of white bread for your sandwiches.

11. Instead of ordering fries with your meal, try a side salad.

12. When ordering a salad ask to have the dressing on the side and try reduced calorie dressings.

13. Instead of frying meat, try baking, broiling or grilling your meat.

14. Leave some food on your plate. Contrary to what you were told as a child, you do not have to eat everything
on your plate.

15. Try single serving size snacks instead of eating snacks right out of the bag. This will make it
easier to control portions and eat less calories.

16. If you are a popcorn lover try low-fat popcorn for a healthy snack that is also high in fiber.

17. Good news for chocoholics! You can eat chocolate and still save calories by choosing bite-size or fun size
portions.

18. Buy canned fruit packed in natural juices instead of heavy syrup. Or you can choose fresh fruit.

19. Drink diet soda instead of regular soda. This can really save you calories.

20. Refrain from super-sizing meals and beverages. This is a great example that bigger isn't always better.

I hope these tips will help you to learn how to cut calories but still enjoy the foods you love.
