Being careful with money is important at any time, during this time we all need to pinch pennies. We can still decorate our homes in a beautiful fashion that costs nothing or little.
Many of these items we already have; its simply a matter of putting them to use. Here are some suggestions:
1) Carpet Squares = Place double-sided tape on the back of a carpet square and stick to the wall. This can be used as a bulletin board, as a backdrop for a picture(s), or a colorful conversation piece.
2) Posters = Kids rooms and college rooms are the usual places that posters will be on display. Posters make beautiful decorations. Create a them and get several posters for one room that fit that theme. Have fun with it.
3) Newspaper Article = This is the absolute epitome of cheap. If you get a daily paper it's a matter of cutting out the article of your choosing. If you have to pick up a paper, you spend a couple of dollars. Some ideas for articles are special events, advice, headline on your anniversary, a travel destination, or financial articles.
4) Greeting Cards = Often you get beautiful cards. Cheery sayings or pictures can be framed or not and be part of your decor.
5) Pictures = You can make a grouping of pictures; family, travel or favorite pictures.
6) Plates = You may choose different colors, or many hues of one color; all one size or many sizes.
7) Old silverware = This can be found at estate sales, thrift shops, and antique stores. Clean the silverware, display it, and you have a charming wall hanging.
8) Hankerchiefs = These items were used quite a bit at one time and have very pretty designs on them. Put together an inexpensive hankerchief and an inexpensive frame and you have a lovely wall hanging.
9) Dried flowers = During the summer choose flowers from your garden. Dry them and make an arrangement.
10) Art canvas with your art = If you can't draw; stencil or trace a design, paint and hang the picture.
11) Coloring book art = This is great for parents or anyone else with small children. By framing a selected picture, your refrigerator doesn't have to be continually plastered with pictures and you don't have to save everything colored by your children.
12) A recipe = There may be a recipe passed down in the family; keep it clean and on display by framing it. Or you may choose to frame a favorite recipe of yours, so you don't run the risk of ruining it.
13) Sheet Music = Antique stores, music stores, thrift shops have this. There is music for time periods, travel, hobbies, sports, or your favorite music. Go online to find the specific titles, then do the legwork to find the actual music.
14) Collage = This could be your favorite things, places you want to travel, or goals you would like to achieve. Clip photographs from magazines for ideas.
15) Stencil = Stencil directly on your wall, on canvas, or on wood. The room will be cheerier because of it.
16) Stamping = Whether it's a plaque for the living room or a banner for the laundry room, stamping adds a personal touch.
17) Poetry = Take a paper with burnt or scalloped edges and type or write in calligraphy a special poem.
18) Postcards = Many postcards are quite beautiful. Whether you're the one on vacation or others mail you postcards, keep them.Frame them and hang them in your office so when you need a break from work you can look at your postcards.
19) Calendar pictures = We choose our calendars with care, so why not keep the pictures around longer than one year. Hang a grouping in the hallway.
20) A leaf = Some leaves look absolutely beautiful in their fall colors. Choose a few and frame them.
