Sandra Bacon
Here are 20 Other Uses For Toothpicks. I know there are some people who still use them, though I generally use dental floss because toothpicks only shove food particles further between my teeth.

And cleaning food particles from between your teeth is the reason they were invented back in 1887 by a man named of Charles Forster. He started the first factory in the United States that made toothpicks from wood.

They have always been made from white birch, but you wouldn't think a little piece of wood used for picking teeth could be famous. But apparently in November 1993, a toothpick that had been chewed up by baseball great, Tom Seaver, was auctioned and sold for $440 dollars.
