2005 Ford GT: Money May Not Matter, but It's Worth Every Penny

When my buddy called me to tell me he bought himself a Ford GT, I wasn't too enthused. I had heard some pretty nasty horror stories about the all-American supercar, and I was curious what could have possessed him to go through with the purchase when there were cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari 360 in that same price bracket. He told me that I wouldn't understand until I really took it for a spin, and boy was he right.

If pictures are worth a thousand words, then the beauty of the real thing is worth a novel all its own. A very classic racecar look, available in every color that would make it look great. My personal favorite? Red with white stripes. To put it simply, the car looks fast. If you don't like cars that will make heads turn, than the Ford GT isn't for you, but if you take a distinct pleasure in instilling jealousy in drivers and pedestrians within 100 feet of you, this is an obvious choice. Of course, with American made cars, especially luxury cars, I'm always worried about the interior design. Would the GT be another good intention gone bad? Nope.

The interior contrasts the exterior perfectly. On the outside we have the styling of an old-school racecar, and on the inside we have what feels to me like something from ten years in the future. Comfortable seats, a really neat shifter, and an awesome gauge cluster and dashboard design. Honestly, there are only two cars that I feel have set a standard of perfection for interior design; the rare Toyota Supra, and the Ford GT. The unique feel of it is certainly a lot more pleasant than the Audi-like dash of the Gallardo, and leagues above what you'd expect of most American brands.

I'm not going to go in depth about performance. The car is very fast. Very, very fast. Ford utilized a lot of Aston Martin components in the construction of the Ford GT, and it shows. Though we haven't taken it up to the strip yet, we reached triple digits quickly enough on the freeway for me to be confident that the car will live up to the hype. There are lots of cars as fast as the Ford GT, and some that are even faster. What sets it apart from the herd is that it is unique in every way imaginable. A throwback exterior design, a magnificently luxurious interior with a touch of modernism, and amazing performance on top of it all. On top of all that, it's American made. If you're looking for a supercar and a way to support the the good ol' US of A, then you don't have too many choices. Fortunately, if the Ford GT was the only choice, it would be a long ways away from being a poor one. It's certainly a love it or hate it design, but if you love it, there should be nothing stopping you from going out and buying or leasing one, short of the possibly prohibitive price tag.
