Unilever Dove: Self Esteem Commercial: It gave me chills. This commercial promoted self-esteem for girls in the tween and pre-teen years. It clearly gets across the point that dove wants a girl with freckles to know that she is beautiful. It makes me empathize with a brunette girl who wishes she were blond. It shows that there is beauty in what we consider our imperfections. I find this commercial truly effective from the song "Beautiful, Like a Rainbow" to the montage of girls of all ethnicities.
Did the commercial entertain me? It touched me instead. Will I buy the product? Yes. Knowing that a portion of my money helps to get this message across will get me to buy dove products. Will I visit the website? I have, and I will again. Do I recognize the company? Absolutely. Will I remember to buy dove products when I am looking for soaps and beauty products in six months? Perhaps, if they continue to be visible with this message. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this commercial a ten.
Fed Ex Caveman: I have enjoyed this watching this commercial over the past year. Maybe I am a bit sadistic and like seeing the caveman get squashed. Maybe I like the commercials that followed this past year of the insulted caveman. Oh, wait! That was for a different product. Now that is a problem. While Fed Ex did an excellent job making a commercial that would make me giggle and catch my eye, I cannot say they did a good job with product recognition. Somehow in my mind, the Fed Ex caveman, morphed into the Geico caveman. I guess Geico just did a better job.
Did the commercial entertain me? Yes. Will I buy the product? No more than usual. Will I visit the website? No. Do I recognize the company? Yes. Will I remember the commercial when I need the product in 6 months? Probably not. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this commercial a five.
Alka Seltzer: I Can't Believe I Ate the Whole Thing: This commercial is a new take on an old favorite. Peter Doyle (God rest his soul) did an excellent rendition of the old commercial with his TV wife in the background. If you really listened, you noticed a minor but effective change from the famous tagline. He couldn't believe he "ate that whole thing", instead of "the whole thing" as in the decades old original commercial. I have been watching this commercial in some form all my life, and it still catches my eye. Nostalgia is good.
Did the commercial entertain me? Yes. Will I buy the product? Honestly, I have had the product and don't like the taste, so unless they said "new and improved taste", I don't think so. Will I visit the website? They did not give me a good reason. Do I recognize the company? Absolutely. Will I remember the commercial if I need the product in 6 months? Yes, but I will use Peptol Bismol instead. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this commercial an eight.
