2006 the Year of the Celebrity Break-Ups

#23 Phil and Orianne Collins- Married since 2000, the couple seperated in March of 2006 stating that they had been growing apart for some time. It could have been the big age difference with Collins himself 55 years old, and Orianne in her mid-30's.

#22 Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler- Barker filed for divorce from the former playmate in August of this year. A couple months later Moakler had an altercation with Paris Hilton after seeing the videotape of Barker kissing the hotel queen in September.

#21 Prince and Manuela Testolini- May saw the music icon of the 80's lose his second wife. The couple was married for five years, and met at one of Prince's charitable foundations that Manuela worked. If he's such an icon why in the world is he #21? Well, lol, I didn't know he was married so he had to be down here somewhere.

#20 David and Pamela Hasslehoff- Although very popular elsewhere, Hasslehoff's music is the butt of many jokes in the United States. To go with it, the couple filed for divorce in January, then Pamela filed a court order, claiming domestic violence. 16 years of marriage and two daughters later it was finished. Way-to-go David.

#19 Selma Blair and Ahmet Zappa- One of the few couples where nothing really happened except irreconcilable differences which led to their divorce in June after two years of marriage. They still want to remain close friends and love each other very much. That doesn't sound like Hollywood style, that's just boring.

#18 Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook- The former supermodel couldn't seem to get it right her fourth time around as she filed for divorce to Cook over the summer after discovering he was cheating on her with 19 year old Diana Bianchi one of his employees.

#17 Chris and Malaak Rock- After nearly 10 years of marriage saw the couples marriage come to an end. Chris sounded like he was in some sort of depression stating, "Marriage is beautiful, but if you're a guy, that part of you is dead. Get rid of you. Take yourself to the door and wave". However, around Novemer 17th it was reported that not only had Chris not filed the papers, but they seemed to have worked out their differences.

#16 Matt Leblanc and Melissa McKnight- Married for 3 years the couple ended their marriage in September after a 9 month seperation. The couple wanted to remain private about their divorce and just said, "The dissolution is amicable", for the sake of their 2 year old daughter Marina Pearl and their families. However, it may have started with Leblanc's contact with a stripper in British Columbia during a vacation, which he later apologized to McKnight publicly.

#15 Alanis Morrisette and Ryan Reynolds- Engaged for about 2 years the couple decided to call it quits in June. The couple first met at Drew Barrymore's birthday party in 2002 and dated a couple years before getting engaged in 2004. Morrisette had always had problems dating American men and had stated that their relationship worked well due to the fact they were both Canadien. The reason for the split is still unknown as they have kept it very private.

#14 Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora- February saw Locklear file for divorce from rocker-Sambora. Reports of the divorce are still unknown as the couple were seeking to keep it a private matter. The couple was married for 11 years and filed for joint custody of their 9 year old daughter Ava Elizabeth.

#13 Eminem and Kim Mathers- After round 1 didn't work and turned into an ugly custody battle over their daughter Hailie Jade, tried to get back together a second time around for about 3 months. April brought divorce papers again as it was just seen the second marriage was not going to work. Too bad for her right?

#12Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe- Many were shocked to hear the divorce of the couple that was announced in May. Why many believe the fact that Swank's credibility was soaring through the roof and Lowe's decline for many years was part of the reason for the divorce. However, Hilary told the Vanity Fair magazine over the summer part of the reason was due to a "substance abuse problem".

#11 Jude Law and Sienna Miller- I'm not really sure if this relationship was ever, uh, a relationship. Law and Miller's on again, off again saga came with a 2004 engagement, and then Law's affair with the his children's nanny. 2005 brought an apology and a reconciliation, but Miller's reported involvement with the new James Bond, Daniel Craig brought a break of the engagement by Law. This more drama has they seemed to be working things out reported in May, but finally it is over.

#10 Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson- Married for 6 years Robinson filed for divorce in August after rumors of Hudson and Owen Wilson being romantically involved. Once known as "the rebellious non-hollywood couple" that would be together forever just goes to show Hollywood will always be Hollywood.

#9 Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro- Many rumors surfaced over the past year that the couple headed for trouble, but they kept on insisting everything was fine, which was simply not the case. The couple "seperated amicably" and was announced in July of 2006 after 3 years of marriage.

#8 Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock- November marked the end of the party couple of "P.K.". Always in the spotlight whether music or movies, the couple cited "irreconcilable differences". The amazing relationship was nothing short of turbulent from the get go. The couple first got engaged in 2002, then followed with a breakup the following year. They later decided to get back together, and had several wedding ceremonies anywhere from Beverly Hills to France.

#7 Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow- This relationship split struck many people by surprise when the couple decided to call off their engagement of only a few months. Supporting each other publicly with each other's careers the "perfect little couple" wasn't so perfect after all. The split became a rumor over the holidays of 2005, but both denied and even reports of Crow trying on wedding gowns and stating they were to be married in Austin, Texas in the spring. The privacy has been kept into the actual reasons for the split.

#6 Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe- Witherspoon filed for divorce from Phillipe in November, 2006 after 7 years of marriage. This one might get ugly as she is seeking full custody of their children, and even asked the judge not to give spousal support to Ryan. Reports were made that Phillipe and Australian actress Abbie Cornish had a relationship, Phillipe told people.com,"I'm not a perfect person, but I am not guilty of a lot of things I have been accused of". Soon we will see.

#5 Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz- This Mega couple which brought jealousy amongst many female fans of McConaughey, found out in June they could sigh with relief as the couple decided to split. There was no big rumours of cheating or anything of that nature, it was simply too much time apart. The work schedules just never worked out the way that they wanted them to, and they decided together that seperating for now was the best thing to do. Keep your eyes out though, these two may be back together someday.

#4 Lance Bass and Reichen Lehmkuhl- About 5 months after Lance Bass the former N'Sync star announced to the world that he was gay, the couple split. Part of the reason for the split was that Reichen an Air Force pilot, and participate in the "Amazing Race" television show, felt he was forced to announce that he was gay and be open about their relationship. His words, "I was lanced".

#3 Paul and Heather McCartney- After 4 years of marriage to the former model in July, the Beatle filed for divorced. It has since been extremely ugly with allegations of her being a "gold-digger" and his domestic violence towards her. Even during the month of December Heather was threatened by a couple of men due to the accusations, and when she asked Paul to provide security for her and their daughter, he told her the police will handle that kind of thing.

#2 Britney Spears and Kevin Federline- This relationship was doomed by many from the beginning. Everything from calling K-Fed a bum and using Spears for her money, to the parental care of their children. The final installment of this continuous drama came with Spears filing for divorce after 2 years of marriage, and asked for physical and legal custody of their two children. K-Fed however filed his own papers looking for sole custody of their children, so the media frenzy on these two will remain for years to come.

#1 Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn- The biggest "power couple" breakup ended after more than a year together. America's sweetheart still looking for love after her heartache relationship from Brad Pitt, mutually agreed with Vaughn that the distance between them was cooling off their relationship. She was working in Los Angeles and he was in London so time together was just not there.

After reading all of these breakups, and divorces or should I say "mutual agreements, and irreconcilable differences" it just goes to show that most have problems just like the rest of us. Although, many of these breakups were from anything from adultery to domestic violence or to substance abuse which seems to be common in the world of Hollywood, the scrutiny is much more relevant in a celebrity.
