The Budweiser Shootout employs a different format than the regular season races. In this race, there is a 20 lap segment followed by a ten minute intermission. During this intermission, teams are allowed to work on their cars. The race is concluded with a 50 lap segment that must include a green flag pit stop from each team. The Budweiser Shootout is usually around an hour long and does not often include the wrecks commonly seen in the Daytona 500. Rookie Denny Hamlin won last year's competition, with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finishing second. This year's race winner stands to take home around $200,000.
For the first time, Speed Channel carried the qualifying draw on live television. Each year the qualifying draw is more creative, and has in the past featured large bottle caps and even stuffed alligators. This year, drivers sat around a makeshift bar. To choose their starting positions, each driver chose a Budweiser bottle from bartender Kenny Wallace. Inside the bottle was a flag with the starting position on it.
Here is the official lineup for the event, which will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007.

The Budweiser Shootout will be broadcast on Fox. Coverage will start at 8pm EST. Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds, Darrel Waltrip, Jeff Hammond and Chris Meyers will handle the broadcast booth. They will be joined by Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum and Krista Voda from pit road. Fox's coverage this season will include many new camera angles, including the wall camera and the grass camera. These extra views will help make one of the season's most exciting races even better. The Budweiser Shootout is always a fun race, and this season's promises to be no different.

Post a CommentThanks! I'm a huge Nascar fan, too, and it was really fun watching the show last night. It's nice to see drivers "dressed down" for an event.
I really enjoyed watching them pick spots for the shootout. I am so glad Nascar season is here again.Good article.
