When my ten year old Cavalier decided it was not going to run anymore I thought it would be best to buy a new car. I had always liked the Monte Carlo, especially after I remember NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt talk about what a great ride one was. So I thought this was a perfect time for me to get one. When I went to the dealership and was looking at the Monte Carlos, and other cars, I really did not know exactly what I was looking for. I started looking at the stickers on the windows. There was this one silver/gray that really caught my eye. I read the sticker and thought this was the car for me. It had a sun roof, satellite radio, dual airbags, stereo controls on the steering wheel, and was total electric. It also had a nice rear seat console for drinks, a roomy front center storage unit and cup holder.
I had never had a car with total electric, but there they all were, power locks, power windows, and power sunroof. I knew I wanted that Monte Carlo but it was not until I got in and sat in it that I felt like my mind was made up. I sunk in the seat and touched the steering wheel and I was in awe at how nice it felt. I turned the car on and all these messages popped up, from telling me the temperature outside, to the amount and life span of the engine oil, and it also gives the tire pressure for all four tires. I test drove it and then I purchased it. The drive home was the smoothest I had ever had. I have never drove anything smooth riding or so easy to handle. It felt like it fit me like a glove.
Then I got a surprise. It was in the winter when I bought the car and ice had formed on the windows for the first time. I started the car and waited ten minutes or so to let the windows and the windshields to defrost. When I put the car in gear my digital readout on the odometer read "caution, ice may be possible". I felt like my car knew as much if not more than the weatherman.
There are only a couple things I would change on the car. It is a two door and the latch on the front seat to shift it forward for someone to get into the backseat is rather stiff and unweilding. It can be a pain when it is five degrees outside and you have to fumble with the latch to put the kids in the backseat. The other thing is the headroom in the front seat. When I test drove the car I didn't notice it but when I got it home and attached a sunglasses holder to the visor, I find that I hit my head on it fairly often. When my brother finally drove it he was wearing a hat and I thought he was going to tear the visor off when he got his hat stuck. But I actually look at that as a positive in a way because I'm pretty sure he won't ask to borrow my car now!
This was a big decision for me to purchase a new car and I am very happy with the results. My Monte Carlo not only runs very nicely, it has an excellent ride, does well on gas mileage and is so quiet in the interior the whole family can talk without having to raise their voices. The diagnostics help also, it reminds me of all the basic maintenance items with just the push of a button. I would highly recommend anyone looking to purchase a new vehicle to at least look at and test drive a Monte Carlo before making their final decision.
