2007 Fantasy Football RB's: Which Ones to Think Twice About Drafting?

Statsman
Why should you listen to my fantasy football advice? In 9 years of playing fantasy football I have won 5 fantasy football Super Bowl Championships.

These are the RB's you should be wary of for the upcoming season. None of them are bad players and some have been great and at least one of them is destined for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. But for the upcoming season they are all risks. I'm not saying you shouldn't draft them but that you should think twice before you do and especially contemplate when you draft them.

Making the right draft decisions with RB's is a key to winning in fantasy football.

Shaun Alexander (Seattle Seahawks) - as good a RB and fantasy RB as you'll find for 5 years prior to last season but was a big disappointment to most who drafted him last season. He's a Hall of Fame RB but he'll be 30 years old by the time the season opens and coming off an injury he's a risk. He could go back to being great this year but he probably will never be what he once was again.

Ahman Green (Houston Texans) - moves to the Texans from the Green Bay Packers. Has disappointed fantasy owners for two years in a row now. He's already 30 years old heading into this season and I just don't see him going back to being the productive back he was in Green Bay from 2000-2004. Thirty years old maybe young for most of us but not for an NFL running back.

Travis Henry (Denver Broncos) - productive year for the Tennessee Titans last season with over 1,200 yards and 7 TD scores but a lot of that was because of Vince Young. Teams were afraid of Young's mobility and that allowed Henry to gain some yards. Teams will not be as afraid of Jay Cutler's mobility and I just don't see Henry being overly productive this season. I'd take him in my drafts but not until the later rounds. I'm wary of him this season.

Chester Taylor (Minnesota Vikings) - decent season last year with over 1,500 yards from the line of scrimmage and 6 TD's, including 42 receptions, but the added presence of 1st round draft pick Adrian Peterson really dampens the outlook for his productivity.

Kevin Jones (Detroit Lions) - been a fantasy bust since he had a decent rookie season in 2004. The Lions added both Tatum Bell and T. J. Duckett in the off season and that does not bode well for Jones or his production this season.

Jamal Lewis (Cleveland Browns) - since his great 2,000 yard season in 2003 his production has not been that good. Just don't see the move to the Browns as the answer to his woes. He's lost a step if you ask me.

DeShaun Foster (Carolina Panthers) - never been all that productive a RB to begin with, the most TD's he's ever run for was 3 last season, the development of DeAngelo Williams will probably hurt his production even more.

Clinton Portis (Washington Redskins) - injuries are his problem. Has rushed for 52 TD's and 6,453 yards in 5 seasons but was hurt last season and still has injury problems coming into training camp. Too risky to take high this year, especially with LaDell Betts (1,154 yards and 4 TD's rushing last year combined with 53 receptions and a receiving TD) around as a capable fill in.

Warrick Dunn (Atlanta Falcons) - been a fine and productive back in his career especially considering his size but he's 32 years old and the presence of Jerius Norwood means his days of fantasy production are nearing the end. In the days when the NFL struggles with its image Dunn has been a fine role model on and off the field.

Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars) - saw him play at UCLA and always thought he had great talent but his size worried me. Was awesome in his rookie season rushing for 941 yards with a great average of 5.7 with 13 TD's. He added 46 catches for 436 more yards and 2 more TD's out of the backfield. But the continued presence of Fred Taylor limits his desirability. He will be hard pressed to match that great rookie season. I'm not saying don't draft him and he's the one guy on the list who wouldn't surprise me if he had a great year but be careful about going overboard with him.

Edgerrin James (Arizona Cardinals) - the move away from the Super Bowl winning Indianapolis Colts to the desert in Phoenix really hurt his production last season. We went from 1,800 plus yards and 14 TD scores to just 1,300 yards and 6 TD's. Without Peyton Manning running the show for him I don't see him going back to his old level of production.

Dominic Rhodes (Oakland Raiders) - already suspended for the first 4 games of the season due to drug use. Never a big fan of his anyway, he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry last season for the Super Bowl winning Colts offense. Just don't see him being very productive for the Raiders this year after he returns.
