2007 Holiday Events in New York City

Want to do something other than watch the Macy's Day parade this holiday season in New York, well then take a look below at a few places you and your family can enjoy this cold, wintery, 2007 holiday season.

One of my first choices for you and your family to start off this holiday season is to visit New York Botanical Gardens located at 200th Street and Kazimiroff Blvd., inside of the Bronx. New York Botanical Gardens is open from November through March each and every year, Tuesday - Sunday from 10-4 pm. Prices are extremely reasonable and will not leave you with an empty pocket at all. $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for students and seniors, and $1.00 for children between 1-12 years-old. As quoted on NY.com, New York Botanical Gardens is "One of the oldest and largest botanical gardens in the world, The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is a museum of plants and a National Historic Landmark with 250 acres of gorgeous grounds, 47 gardens and plant collections (such as daylilies, herbs, native plants, perennials, alpine plants, roses, annuals, magnolias, and tulips, as well as thousands of shrubs and trees), 40-acres of the Forest that once covered all of New York, and the spectacular Enid A. Haupt Conservatory."

Next is by far one of the prettiest holiday light shows I have ever seen, the Bronx Zoo's Holiday Lights is located at Fordham Road and Bronx River Parkway. It is open from November 16 - January 6, 2008, Monday-Sun from 10-5:30pm. Price to the Bronx Zoo's Holiday Lights is $9.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids 2-12 as well as seniors, and free under the age of 2. Children under the age of 17 do have to be accompanied by an adult. The Bronx Zoo's Holiday of lights is 144 illuminated sculptures of snow flakes, star bursts, reindeer, as well as eight and half miles of superb tree lighting. Do not miss this spectacular event, and do not forget to bring the camera!

Then we have The Big Apple Circus which all kids as well as adults will enjoy tremendously. This circus is centered in the middle of Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center between the months October 19 - January 13, 2008. With this being it's 30th year of bringing spectacular memories to children and their families all around the country, the cast of The Big Apple Circus will be that of performers from 10 countries. Watch as human canons get shot across the center stage, or while beautiful women walk across a tight rope 50 feet in the air, and even laugh as clowns come piling out of a car that usually fits two people. Make unforgettable memories at The Big Apple Circus. Prices for the shows are $66.00 for non peak hours, $84.00 for peak hours, and $40.00 for the matinee show. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to see one of the greatest circus's on Earth.

These are just three of some of the many different activities you can go to in the New York area during the holiday season. There are the unforgettable Macy's Day Parade, or the lighting of the tree in the center of Lincoln Center which to me should never be missed regardless of weather.
