2007 Music: The Year of Soundtracks

Morningstar
While there were many big CDs of 2007, like Kanye West's Graduation and Radiohead's In Rainbows, none of them really interested me. I'm still rocking out to tunes from '06, like Fergie's The Dutchess and Robin Thicke's The Evolution of Robin Thicke. However I will make clear that there were a few good soundtracks of this past year.

Grey's Anatomy: Volume 3. This soundtrack is the third in the series, having been released on the same day as the show's third season on DVD. This album is the blue one (Volume 1 is black, 2 is red). This CD has music from season 3 of the hit ABC show. My favorite songs are The Story by Brandi Carlisle, which was made into a music video shown at the end of season 3, Breathe In Breathe Out by Mat Kearney, and Young Folks by Peter Bjorn & John. This CD is a must-have for any Grey's fan. It will transport you back to Cristina & Burke's (almost) wedding, Ellis and Susan's deaths, and Callie & George's whirlwind romance.

I will add that the first two volumes of the Grey's soundtracks are just as good and I own them as well. In fact, you can buy all three in a collector's edition box set on Amazon.com for only $23.99. Good deal! Some of the songs on the first two discs are How to Save a Life by the Fray and Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.

The Simpsons Movie has a soundtrack out, too. The music has more of an orchestra feel, and is soothing yet quirky at the same time. It also comes in a limited edition donut shaped package! It even includes an orchestral version of the show's theme song. How fun!

Another suggestion is the Hairspray soundtrack. This CD contains the music from this summer's blockbuster movie, which featured Amanda Bynes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Christopher Walken, John Travolta, and newcomer Nikki Blonsky.. The songs, like Good Morning Baltimore and You Can't the Beat, are catchy and fun to sing and dance to. There is even a Collector's edition 2-disc set which includes extra tracks. What a good gift for a fan, alone or with the Hairspray DVD.

All of these CDs are available wherever music is sold. Be sure to check them out; they make a great addition to a collection, and are great to listen to while working out, lounging, or driving.
