2007 NFL All-Undrafted First and Second Teams

The Best of the Players Whose Names Weren't Called on Draft Day

Gary Malmberg
This is a tribute to the Unknown soldiers of the NFL. The guys who get less respect than a Bengals security guard. And they make about the same pay with considerably less job security. I´m talking about the undrafted college free agents. The camp meat. The players who often share the same numbers on their backs with other afterthoughts unless and until they can prove themselves worthy of a real shot of being something other than fodder for the stars. Last year it was Hank Baskett, In the past it was guys like Wil Demps, Tommy Kelly, Adam Vinatieri and Jason Peters. The list goes on.

This season I am cutting right to the chase with my 2007 All-Undrafted 1st and 2nd teams. These players were all rated before the draft. All but one player signed. If Matt Clark is on a roster, I am not aware of it. They are listed with the teams that signed them after the draft, though I did note that Robert Turner was cut by the Cowboys and signed by the Jets. Dan Mozes, my highest rated free agent was placed on injured reserve.

The notations after each player comprise the college and pro teams, followed by the range I had put them on draft day. Palko's 4-5 means that I would have looked at him at the end of the 4th round to the 5th round. +/- equals top, middle and bottom of a round, respectively. TC equals training camp fodder, TC+ means a priority free agent. A sleeper is a player who I think has a chance to be better than rated. Someone to keep a special eye on. Rhema McKnight merited a question mark because I think he is truly a boom or bust player.

That said, I think it's important to note that it is still way to early to evaluate most of these guys.

I have been grading players since 2003, and started publishing ratings, including some free agents, in 2004.

  • How many players will make the final cut with the team that signed them?
  • Which teams signed the best free agent college players?
255 players were drafted in 2007, yet several undrafted players will earn spots on team rosters, and there will be at least one who will be an {impact} player in years to come
