Created by a former head writer and comic performer on Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey, who is also one of the executive producers of this show.....She plays the part of Liz Lemon, the head writer of this fictional comedy series which is loosely based on some of the insane goings on that take place on her former home turf, Saturday Night Live.
The title of this show is taken from the nickname many call 30 Rockefeller Center, which is where Saturday Night Live was taped in front of a live audience...this show follows that premise including all the angst of creating a live show every week....Fey wrote many of last years episodes as well as starred in them...
The show follows all the antics of the cast and those behind the scenes responsible for the shows success and writing the sketches for the comedy we see in the audience. Another star from Saturday Night Live, Tracy Morgan plays Tracy Jordan an insane actor/comedy star with many quirks who Liz, has to placate and please with the sketches she writes...She also has to contend with her boss Jack Donaghy, (Alex Baldwin), whose always messing around with her life and the show, trying to come up with new ideas which somehow go array or not to her liking...episodes also included a look into the interference in her personal life by her best friend, Jenna,(Jane Krakowski).
When the show left off, Liz had to decide if she wanted to leave the show to follow her romantic interest to Cleveland which she opted not to do, and Jack, (Baldwin), also lost his love interest when his engagement ended.
Though the series didn't have great ratings, it was renewed due to the persistence of the small fan base and the faith that NBC had in the show...the fact that 30 Rock, won the Emmy for outstanding comedy series proves a point that quality does overrule quantity, in some cases that is.
This years show proves very promising on many levels...The big news is that Jerry Seinfeld is returning to situation comedy when the season premiere on October 4th, begins with a must see one night stand...the back story about his short comeback stems from the few days he was at the NBC studios, this year, doing a promo for his animated new movie and the network co-chairman Ben Silverman approached the comic to ask if he would be interested in doing the opening show...Seinfeld is said to have decided quickly that he would love to do it since he is a big fan of the 30 Rock and of Tina Fey...he's also a fan of Alex Baldwin so the deal was sealed.
When Baldwin and Seinfeld get together in the episode titled "Seinfeld Vision" it is said, by all the reviewers lucky enough to pre-screen the show, that it is simply hilarious since it revolves around a scheme by Baldwin that they pillage and plunder the vaults of the Seinfeld show in order to digitally add Jerry into some other running shows which are also produced by NBC..
As for the rest of the season, there are going to be some cast changes but basically 30 Rock will deal with the same issues that demonstrate the day by day problems and zanyness of producing a weekly live comedy show and all that it entails, in the successful way that they have done this past year of course.
I know I will be watching and wish for continued success to this most delightful and original comedy show.
30 Rock will be on Thursday nights at 8:30 P.M. The premiere show will air on Oct 4th
The series is executive-produced by Lorne Michaels, the producer of Saturday Night Live as well as Tina Fey, JoAnn Alfano, David Miner and Marci Klein.

Post a Comment"30 Rock" Rocks!!! Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jan Krakowski et al are a hoot....and Jack McBrayer deserves an Emmy nod...for playing Kenneth, one of the most convincing, lovable dorks in sitcom history. I hope 30 Rock ends up becoming the sleeper hit of this decade.
