The end of the NFL Football Season. For devout football fans everywhere, it truly is a loss that will be felt deeply until August when the pre-game season begins. The somber faces and tears were reflective of what is truly happening around the country with true-blue football-loving fans.
The scenes of body paint being sprayed off, team-theme items being put away, and fans dressed in full regalia giving one another somber glances was clever and true-to-life writing. No words were needed in this commercial other than the few that were said. The scenes depicted told the whole story and said all that needed to be said.
The only thing I didn't get about the commercial was the end where the narrator says that for some football fans saying goodbye is harder than for others. As this was being said, Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre was shown, sadly saying goodbye to the season as well. Immediately, I thought this meant he was retiring at the end of the season, and this was the NFL's way to help him say goodbye to the fans. Wrong! According to his official website, he will be back for the 2007 Season.
So what was the point of showing him sadly saying goodbye when he is not leaving football? I have no idea. I felt it was misleading and ruined the feeling of the rest of the commercial. All football players have a hard time saying goodbye to each season. None of them know what the summer break or training camp or negotiations or next season will bring. I think it was a poor choice to show Brett Favre when he isn't retiring yet.
Other than that, I really loved the commercial. Not belly laugh funny, but appropriate and touching. This football fan will not be putting her football memorabilia away as it has an entire room to occupy year round: the 'sports den' themed family room!
This commercial garnered 4.5 of 5 possible daisies.

Post a CommentI totally took the commercial that it was about Favre coming back. I loved it! ! ! ! Sorry others weren't able to appreciate it!
Wasn't that the point of having Favre in the commercial? It's too hard for him to say goodbye....that's why he is coming back.
