2007 New Year's Eve Parties in Paris

Sandra Ketcham
Paris is one of the most exciting, romantic, and beautiful cities in which to celebrate New Year's Eve. Fine dining, cruises down the Seine River, fabulous fireworks displays, and world-class clubs are just a few of the many special attractions that can be enjoyed in the City of Light on New Year's Eve. Below are a few destinations that should be on the top of everyone's list when they visit Paris on New Year's Eve.

Champs-Elysees:

This is the largest avenue in Paris, and is bordered by some of the best cinemas, shops, restaurants, and theaters in the city. The New Year's Eve celebration that takes place on Champs-Elysees draws thousands of people from all over the world. The celebration starts around 9:00 p.m. and lasts until well into the new year. Major fireworks displays are visible from the Champs-Elysees, including the incredible light display that takes place at the Eiffel Tower. Be prepared to encounter many people lighting off fireworks in the street as well, as fireworks are legal in Paris.

Hot Dining Spots:

Paris is known for its fine dining all year, but some restaurants in the city offer special New Year's Eve dining. The Brasserie Flo, Brasserie Julien, and Vaudeville all offer special meals to fill up your stomach before you head out to celebrate.

Cruises:

New Year's Eve dinner cruises can be an exciting and romantic way to spend your night in Paris. Yachts de Paris offers a two-hour dinner cruise that includes views of some of the city's most magical sights. Reservations are mandatory. Bateaux Parisiens is another dinner cruise that includes musical entertainment as well as fine dining and wine. Reservations must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Cabaret Shows:

Le Moulin Rouge is the most well-known cabaret in the world. Spending New Year's Eve at le Moulin Rouge will be expensive, but will also be unforgettable. The New Year's Eve show includes a foie gras, lobster and champagne dinner, dancing, music performed by the Moulin Rouge Orchestra, and a surprise gift for each ticket holder. There is also a post-midnight show for those that wish to continue their celebration into the new year. The cost is nearly 700 dollars per person, and reservations need to be made in advance.

Another Paris cabaret offering a New Year's Eve dinner and show is Lido. Lido is located on the Champs-Elysees, and provides a night similar to the one offered by le Moulin Rouge, for a slightly higher price. Seats are likely to fill up quickly, so it is wise to book your reservations well in advance.

Clubs:

Paris has a very active nightlife and is home to some of the trendiest and most fashionable clubs in the world. Clubbing is a very popular activity on New Year's Eve for both locals and tourists. Some of the hottest nightclubs in Paris are Nouveau Casino, Le Troisieme Lieu, Le Point Ephemere, and Bataclan.

There are a few things to remember when spending New Year's Eve in Paris. Many celebrations are not child-friendly. Expect any person at any time to light off a firecracker or consume alcohol. Take care of your personal belongings, as if you do not watch them closely they will end the night in the hands of someone else. Also, the Metro is free until 12:05 a.m., but will be very crowded. If you do not wish to deal with the masses of partygoers, find alternate transportation to and from any activities you wish to take part in.

Whatever your final destination on New Year's Eve in Paris, you are certain to experience a magical night that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
