2007-08 NBA Season Preview: Southeast Division

Bruce Bostwick
The Southeast Division had Miami winning even though it looked like that wouldn't happen at some point during the season. Orlando barley made the playoffs joining a rare club of below .500 teams to make the playoffs. In most cases, they never go all the way. This season however is going to be interesting but the division may not see much of a facelift. Looking at this division, it was obvious to see who would get the convincing record to take it and two lucky teams to actually make the post-season. Without further or do, here are the predictions of who is going to win that division.

Miami Heat

Two seasons ago, they won their 1st ever finals, now they got in and got knocked out. They could also be a potential team to defeat going into the season. With Shaq and Wade, it will help but it may not be enough. Will they be able to address the situation and upgrade to at least needing three really good players? It would certainly help them. Looking at this team and comparing it to others, it would be no surprise if they go back-to-back for the division playoffs. Look for this team to go back and possibly be contenders to go to the finals and go for their 2nd ever championship.

Projected Finish: 1st

Washington Wizards

The Wizards got really lucky that due to the conference having some not so good team gets in, they got it that way. Nevertheless, it was pure luck but the team could do better. They can put things together and really give the Heat a run for their money. The chemistry will have to be fixed and get it together to really improve from last season. Even though they made the playoffs, the record was disappointing. To put it simply and being right to the point look for the Wizards to be in 2nd place but will challenge for the Wild Card possibly.

Projected Finish: 2nd

Orlando Magic

This team was very lucky to get in the post-season. They had a record below .500 and its unbelievable and generally shocking a team gets in with that record. It was the lowest seed in the post-season but if they expect to return, a repeat of a bad record is not the way to go. Ok, maybe it wasn't that bad but still it could have been better. It was pure luck that just every other team was just worse than them. The chemistry obviously is going to be needed if they expect to make it this upcoming season. To put it simple, it doesn't have to be the best players in the world, it has to have to play as a unit. If they can do that, they will contend.

Projected Finish: 3rd

Charlotte Bobcats

This team hasn't been good but it is getting better. They finished above last, which was a step in the right direction. The identity of this team is being worked on at the moment so there will most likely be more playoff appearance for them but if they do have a decent season. It was nice they got a franchise back after the original Charlotte team, the Hornets, left and went to New Orleans. Expect them to finish 4th but that's about it.

Projected Finish: 4th

Atlanta Hawks

While they finished last, it is still a rebuilding process for them. It was terrible and there is no chemistry seen at all. There may not be stars on this team but that doesn't matter, as a direction is needed for this team. If there is an owner that wants this team to go further, then they need to do what it takes to help this team. As long as there is consistent team chemistry in a positive manner, it will really be huge and the sky can be the limit. For now, they will most likely be finishing dead last.

Projected Finish: 5th

Overall, that division is pretty much the same look as last season. The records won't be the same most likely so coming up soon will be the Eastern Conference Wild Card teams to see which 5 possible teams will make it based upon how well the teams have played.

  • The Miami Heat was the over team in that division that was above .500.
  • Washington finished 2nd but was only .500 for the season.
Orlando made the playoffs despite having a losing record even though it is rare for that to happen.
