2008-2009 Texas Quail Hunting Season

Deborah Anderson
The 2008-2009 Texas Quail hunting season is the time of year, set by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which allows hunters to attempt to take their limit of Bobwhite Quail, Scaled or Blue Quail and Gambel's Quail throughout this great state. While the dates of this hunting season are important, they are not the only regulation set for this hunting season by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Quail hunters in Texas must also know the number of quail they are allowed to take each day as well as the number of Quail they can legally have in their possession. They will also have to know what licenses they must buy and what means and methods they can use to take these birds. Following these rules and regulations as they are set by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is well worth it should the hunter be approached by a Texas Game Warden.

The dates of the 2008-2009 Texas Quail hunting season, set by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, are October 25, 2008 through February 22, 2009. This hunting season is open during these dates through out the state of Texas. During this time, hunters who are carrying a valid, current Texas hunting license can take a daily bag limit of 15 quail and can have in their possession limit of 45 quail.

Anyone participating in the 2008-2009 Texas Quail hunting season must have a valid, current Texas Hunting License. Residents of Texas can choose from a Texas Resident Hunting License, a Super Combination or Resident Combination Hunting and Fishing License, a Texas Lifetime Hunting License or a Texas Lifetime Combination Hunting and Fishing License. Non-residents of Texas can also enjoy participating in this hunting season as long as they buy a Non-resident Texas General Hunting License or a Non-resident Texas 5-Day Special Hunting License. Texas Hunting Licenses are valid from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009. Both residents and non-residents of Texas must have proof of successfully completing a hunter's education course if they ere born on or after September 2, 1971 in addition to their Texas Hunting License.

In Texas, quail can be pursued and taken using several means and methods. These include any legal firearm or muzzleloaders. The exceptions to this are pellet guns, air guns and fully automatic firearms. Also, firearms cannot have silencers or sound-suppressing devices on them while they are being used to hunt quail in this state.
