2008 Grammys: Lackluster Performances, Predictable Winners

With the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Tina Turner, Alicia Keys , Aretha Franklin , Fergie, Amy Winehouse and the Foo Fighters, one would think the 2008 Grammy awards would be amazing. Unfortunately it wasn't. Three words to describe the show: A Hot Mess! I'm sitting here in my favorite chair wishing I didn't just waste the last 3 hours of my life. I expected a lot more out of the Grammys. I knew it was it was going to be a mess right from the start, a sappy duet between Frank Sinatra and Alicia Keys.

During the rest of the show, it didn't get much better. Carrie Underwood over sang, Rihanna didn't quite click with The Time, and Fergie gave a lack luster performance. Why didn't Rihanna perform umbrella ella ella? The Beatles tribute was very unnecessary! We know the world loves the Beatles, but seriously, that was that necessary? I think not!

The High lights of the night were Kanye west's performance and acceptance speech, the Amy Winehouse foolishness, Aretha Franklin's Breast, and Beyonce and Tina Turner. I expected more though. Beyonce could have turned it up a notch and Kanye could have been a little bit more humble. Overall Alicia Keys was the only artist who displayed why she is a Grammy worthy artist. Alicia and John Mayer were amazing! The Grammys did a great job of showing how dated they are. They have but putting on the same damn show for the last 10 years! The older artists didn't make it any better. The finally performance with some of the originators of rock & roll was the only perfect duet of the night.

The Grammys defiantly catered to Amy Winehouse! Not only did they give her airtime, they gave her 5 Grammys. Even though the performances were sketchy, they got the awards right for the most part. Rihanna and her pimp (Jay-Z) should have won record of the year though. I am a little disappointed with Herbie Hancock's win for album of the year. Not because of the actual quality of the music, but because I would have much rather heard ridiculous speech from Winehouse or Kanye.

The Grammys seriously need to get their act together before next year's show. First off, they can start by booking a host! Am I the only one who noticed there was not even a host? What is that about? It would be nice if the show was a bit more relevant. I don't mind older performers, but the show should keep up with the times.
