The big decision facing Heisman Trophy voters this season is between statistics versus leadership. In the offense-happy Big 12, Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, Graham Harrell, and Colt McCoy have put up some extraordinary numbers this season. Tim Tebow, however, has had a bit lower numbers and quarterback rating this year, but has the Florida Gators surging to a potential spot in the National Championship game! Voters will have to decide prior to any potential match-up between Tebow and the Gators against the Big 12 team who comes out unscathed on their choice for the Heisman Trophy.
When Harrell connected with Michael Crabtree to knock-off the Texas Longhorns, he became the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy in many fan's minds! That came coupled with annihilating the competition since the Texas game have only cemented his position as the number 1 contender to dethrone Tim Tebow. If Harrell can lead Tech past Sam Bradford and the Sooners this weekend, expect to see the Raiders in the National Championship game and Harrell to be the pick of Heisman Trophy voters who believe the player with the best stats should win!
Sam Bradford has been quietly leading the nation with over 35 TD passes so far this season! He fell a bit on the Heisman trophy picks on the web after the Oklahoma Sooners lost to the Longhorns earlier in the season, however if Bradford can pull off the upset against Texas Tech this weekend, expect him to be back in the forefront of Heisman Trophy voter's minds.
Tim Tebow has been on a personal mission since Florida's loss to the Ole Miss Rebels to prove that the Gators should be the NCAA Football national champions! Florida has been destroying all of the opponents they have faced since the close loss to Ole Miss. With the improved supporting cast at Florida, Tebow's overall numbers have been down this year, but his interceptions per game have also been down. Don't expect to see Coach Myer play Tebow much this weekend against the Citadel. It will be interesting to see if the Heisman voters reward his leadership of the team over reproduction of his gaudy statistics from last season. For what its worth, our pick is Tim Tebow to repeat as the Heisman trophy winner this season!
Colt McCoy can only hope for a Sooners victory this weekend to have a renewed shot at the national title and to retake the Heisman lead from Graham Harrell. His play has been nothing but spectacular this season, but he is having a NFL-caliber year the same season as several other great quarterbacks!
