2008 NBA Draft Preview: Robin Lopez

Reba M
Robin Lopez is a remarkable basketball player from Fresno, California. Unfortunately, for Robin, throughout most of his career, he has been overshadowed by his brother Brook Lopez. Yet, Robin will be one of the members of the 2008 NBA Draft class on his own merit. Robin was a 2006 McDonald's All American. For the 2007-2008 season he was named to the All Pac-10 Defensive Team and was an All Pac-10 Team Honorable Mention recipient.

Robin Lopez has wonderful passing ability and is a phenomenal offensive rebounder. He is also great at running the floor. Robin is a great shot blocker and can contest a wide variety of shots, leading to his recognition as a great defensive player. His strength in these aspects of his game has lead to him being part of the 2008 NBA Draft.

When it comes to shooting range and free throw shooting, Robin ability is not as great. Robin Lopez also struggles with getting back down in the paint and with defensive rebounds. He is also not as strong when defending on the perimeter as he is inside the paint. Most of Robin Lopez's flaws in his game can be connected to the fact that he lacks aggression on the basketball court. While, all of Robin Lopez's weakness in his game are minute they have assisted with placing him in his brother's shadow and being expected to be chosen later in the 2008 NBA Draft.

NBC Sports has listed the expectations by using their mock draft that states that Robin Lopez will be No. 15 in the draft and will go to the Phoenix Suns. If he plays for the Suns his free throw shooting ability will defiantly improve. While, collegehoopsnet.com has predicted that Robin Lopez will be picked twenty-first and will most likely be drafted by the New York Mets.

Nice article Becca, hard to say where Lopez will go he is being drafted merely on potential and not productivity in my eyes.
