So it begs the question: Which websites should one go to if they want the best information on the Olympics?
Well, I'll list a few of my top choices:
1) www.olympic.org - first and foremost comes this website, the official website of the Olympic Games in Beijing, 2008. If this website doesn't have the most up-to-date, comprehensive coverage of the Games, before, during and after, then the people running it should get sacked. It is this website's job to be your number one source in all things Olympics-related, and I fully expect it to deliver come Games time.
2) http://groups.google.com/group/BEIJING-2008-Olympic- Games - this website is like an official news source for all new information coming out of Beijing. Any new announcement the International Olympic Committee (IOC) make in relation to the Beijing Games are immediately posted on this website, and it should be inundated with new and valuable information come Games time in August.
3) www.projectshum.org/Olympics - whilst getting involved with the hype, pomp and pageantry come Games time, we cannot forget about the youngest fans of the Games. This website provides an easy-to-follow guide on all things Games-related, and will help any young fan become an instant expert.
4) www.usoympicteam.com - if you are from Stateside, or simply a fan of the Red, White and Blue, then this is the website for you. The official website of the United States Olympic team will keep everyone up-to-date on all things American-related at the Games, including live feeds, interviews with American athletes, biographies, and replays of American medal-winning performances. Who needs NBC's coverage when you have this?
5) www.marcolympics.org - this websites bills itself as "the place for web searchers to be" come Games time. Offering full and comprehensive daily reports on everything going on in Beijing, plus details of all medal winners on each day of the Games, this website could be a very handy tool in any Olympic-fans diary.
6) www.olympicsmemories.com - if the smell of the Olympic flame burning brightly in Beijing piques your memory as to just who won the mens 100 meters final at Sydney, 2000, then look no further than this website. It gives a comprehensive review of all previous Olympic Games medalists, their discipline, their score or time set, nation represented, as well as quirky facts and figures about Games past. After reading this, you'll be a walking Olympic Games encyclopedia.
7) www.sportsbite.com/index.pl - this website will be very handy in the lead-up to the Games, to learn about just who is in-line to medal at the Games from your nation. It covers Olympic sports in-depth, naming all the contenders, pretenders and also-rans in each field. In-depth analysis of each Olympic discipline, and who's making noises, should allow everyone across the world to know just what events to tune into, and who to look for.
Well, I've given plenty of good brain food there for everyone to be studied up on this year's Olympic Games.
Now hop to it before August comes, so by the time the flame is lit in Beijing, you'll know
