2008 Presidential Election: Ron Paul May be a Voting Option in Many Republican Primaries

L. Vincent Poupard
Ron Paul is gaining a larger and larger audience of support for his Presidential campaign. Many of his supporters, though, do not realize that there is something important that they have to do before the Republican Primary if they intent to cast a vote for their favorite candidate.

Many of the Ron Paul supporters are very vocal about why they believe that the Republican from Texas is the best man to lead our country. Some of them will spend hours sending out emails or messages to everyone possible to make sure that Ron Paul gains more attention.

There is one important thing that all of the Ron Paul supporters have to do something very important before the Primaries. Many believe that they can vote in the Republican Primaries just by registering to vote. These people do not realize that they have to register as a Republican if they want to cast a vote for Ron Paul.

The Republican Party holds what is called a, "Closed Primary." This means that only Republicans can vote in the Primary. If you are not registered with the Republican Party, you will not have an opportunity to vote in their Primary.

I have seen many of the emails about supporting Ron Paul for the Presidency. I have also read many of the bulletins that have been placed by his supporters on MySpace. Many of these messages will encourage people to register to vote, but I have yet to see one that suggests that people register to vote as a Republican.

The same can be said, though, for many of the messages that I have seen about supporting other candidates from the Republican Party. The statement is made that someone will have to register to vote, but that is it.

Large portions of the supporters of Ron Paul are not people that consider themselves to be Republicans. There are many Independents and Democrats that support Ron Paul. Many of these supporters will be leery of possibly joining the Republican Party.

If you joining the Republican Party, you are not required to vote in a particular fashion in any election. You are not forced to vote for Republicans, as this kind of pressure is illegal. For the most part, it gives you the right to vote in the Primaries, and that is about it.

While many are trying to get the word out about Ron Paul, there should also be a clear picture of how people can support him in the Primaries. If Ron Paul does not win the Primary Election, there is not a chance that is could win the National Presidential Election.

ATTN RON PAUL SUPPORTERS IN NH-
In New Hampshire you can register at the polls but as I understand it if you are already registered as independent or democrat you cannot change your party at the polls and vote that party in the primaries. Supporters of Ron Paul in NH who are not already registered as Republican need to go to their town/city clerks office months in advance and change their registration status, the deadline date is still open but if you want Ron to win do not delay on this!!! Ron Paul supporters from other states should also check on the election rules for their state, it is imerative that all of us who want Congressman Paul to become President Paul are able to cast our votes for him!

The Republican Party prefers that people register as a Republican. There has been an internal dabate over this for years in the Party. There is a good chance though that it will become a firm rule this year.

It's actually different per state. In some states you don't have to be registered as a Republican to vote in a primary. Some states allow Independents to vote in one primary (D or R) and some states will even allow voters to vote in any primary they choose regardless of registration. There are a few websites where you can look up the rules by state.
