2008 Presidential Election. Two Great Tickets, One Tough Choice

R.D. CASTLE
For political observers, this is the best time in their lives. Senator Obama filled his ticket, not with Hillary, but a good man, Senator Biden. The Republicans needed a boost, in my opinion, after a very good Democratic Convention. They got it today, by Senator McCain choosing Governor Sarah Palin, from Alaska. The first African-American candidate for President, and the 2nd female Vice-President candidate. Not bad, boys and girls, this is going to be fun!

I consider myself to be an average American. Unlike a lot of my friends and neighbors, I pay attention to all of this. The next President is probably the most important one in our Country's history. The economy is bad. Health care has been disappearing for a lot of people, like me. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan is a major issue. So many issues, only one choice for President.

Having voted for the Democratic Nominee every single election I have ever participated in, since 1974, my choice is simple, right? Senators Obama and Biden are truly a good team, so my choice is easy. Or is ti? I really like Senator McCain, and Governor Palin seems to be very likable. A mom to 5 kids, one being deployed to Iraq next month, she seems to be a great pick for Senator McCain. So, I'm here to say that my choice is not made yet. I like both tickets.

With only 60 plus days left to our most important Presidential election ever, I am going to urge everyone I know to get involved, and to pay attention. The issues are many, and the choice is tougher. I suspect that a lot of voters who wanted to see Senator Hillary Clinton win the Democratic ticket, will take another look at Senator McCain and his platform. The female vote is crucial to both parties, and I think that the Republicans have made a smart move.

I can't wait to see the first debate. Let's hope everyone involved stays on the high road, and does not use race or gender to help us decide who to pick. Let's talk about solutions to our problems, instead of who thinks what of who. Let the voters decide on issues. Good luck to both tickets. As I've said in the past, I think the United States of America better off, no matter which team gets elected. How blessed we are to live in this great country.
