Tip #1: The first thing you should do is start early, in other words you should think about what you would like to buy beforehand. When you get your ideas down; start off by looking for deals in local newspapers, websites, TV and ads. For those that are into urban clothing, be sure to look at their websites and blogs to keep up to date with all their sales and incentives. Often there will be coupons that offer an additional discount.
Tip #2: After scoping out for stores, get organized and plan out which stores you are going to go to so that you will be doing more shopping than searching. If you have to, compose a list of all the stuff you plan to buy and where to buy them. Also remember to find out what time the stores would be opening and what time they are closing.
Tip#3: For those who plan to camp out in front of stores such as Best Buy or Fry's electronics, I suggest you go with a large group and get there early. When I say early I really emphasize early. Many people camp in front of the store as early as the day before. Going with a large group will allow you guys to cover more ground and get to all the good stuff before anybody else. Bring food, chairs, and warm clothing. When shopping for electronics, don't always look at electronic stores, many other stores such as Walmart, and Sears have better deals.
Tip#4: The best place to get most of your shopping done could possibly be the Mission valley/Fashion valley mall areas. There is a large concentration of various stores around there. Large department stores are always a good choice since they offer many coupons and chances to get additional discounts by using their company card. I believe JCPenny is a good place to get cheap under clothing such as boxers, socks, undershirts, and pajamas.
Tip#5: Don't forget to look for online deals. There are many local stores such as The Attic in downtown San Diego that host online sales. Just be sure to have a good computer and internet connection as their servers are usually overwhelmed and sometimes crash.
Lastly, remember to enjoy yourself and don't get so bummed out if something is sold out. There will always be other deals.
