Slated to entertain millions of fans worldwide at the Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Arizona, on February 3, 2008, are some top name musical acts, some highly rated celebrity gigs and charities, and a host that is sure to please just about everyone in the millions of households and gathering holes everywhere.

Below is a chronological events list as they are planned at this point in time. Some details are still being ironed out in preparation for the 2008 event. The game will be battled out on the field of University of Phoenix Stadium.

National Anthem Guest Singer And Celebrity Host
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/superbowl/ent/articles/1202halftime1202.html reports that the 2007 American Idol winner, Jordan Sparks may be the choice for guest singer for the National Anthem song performance. Fox is scheduled to air the event and it may be that they also produce American Idol and the fact that Ms. Sparks is from Glendale that it might seem like a good choice.

In other Idol/Super Bowl news, it seems as though Mr. Ryan Seacrest has been chosen to be the host and celebrity, red carpet greeter for the event. According to the Website:
http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/08/17/ryan-seacrest-to-host-super-bowl/,
Seacrest is quoted as saying, "It's bigger than a game, and I am thrilled about joining the absolute best sports broadcast team in the world." As he should be. His performance during the festivities is also sure to be a crowd pleasure.

The Much Anticipated Half Time Show
The NFL has selected one of the greatest rock and roll performers and bands to ever grace our stages for it's notorious half-time entertainment performance. Winning the honor for the Super Bowl XLII Half-time show out of such hopefuls as Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, and Bon Jovi, Mr. Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers will be performing for our entertainment pleasure. With Tom Petty's career, numerous awards, and overall contributions to American music, this seems like an extraordinary selection for the fans and viewers. With the groups' talents, no nudity will be required to keep fans rocking and undoubtedly entertained.

Also to be aired from a secret location, during half time will be the Lingerie Bowl V. This event is said to be "The Ultimate Catfight" according to http://phoenix.about.com/od/superbowl/a/SuperBowlParty_2.htm. One can only imagine what this sport involves.

Pregame Festivities In and Around Glendale
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/superbowl/glendale/articles/1013B1-talker1014.html reports that on January 31st, comedian Mr. Jay Leno will perform at a resort in Scottsdale for the "Big Ticket Gala" which is part of a week's worth of Super Bowl related events. Also scheduled to be present during the black tie dinner are Chris Berman and Howie Long.

February 2nd, on the day before the big game, Doug Flutie is set to make an appearance and play drums in the Flutie Brothers Band during the halftime show of a celebrity flag football challenge in Surprise, Arizona. Also mentioned in the article is information regarding a "the 23rd annual Super Bowl NFL Charities Celebrity Golf Classic" which is scheduled for Saturday, February 2nd. Both of these events benefit at-risk children and claim to have current and retired NFL players and Hall of Famers' on the attendance list.

Musical Talent
There will absolutely be no shortage of music prior to and during the Super Bowl. There is speculation that the Goo Goo Dolls may kick off festivities in Old Town Scottsdale on Thursday, the 31st of January. Wyclef Jones, DJ Vice and Ravi Drums will play on Friday, the 1st of February. On Saturday, February 2nd, scheduled to perform are Kriss Kross, Juliette and the Licks, and the great Velvet Revolver followed by DJ Paul Oakenfold. All of this and more can be found on the Website: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/superbowl/glendale/articles/1130sb-buzz1202.html.

One cannot complete an article of this caliber without mentioning information obtained at http://www.eonline.com/news/article/index.jsp?uuid=1267c215-b023-4399-979c-8328ecaf7030, regarding perhaps the most touted performances leading up to the major event of the Super Bowl XLII itself. Musical talent great Ms. Mary J. Blige will perform at jobing.com arena on Thursday, January 31st, along with Maroon 5 during the NFL Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Concert Series. Friday, February 1st, at the same location, fans can jam to the tunes of RBD, a popular Latin pop group.

Parties
The week before the Super Bowl promises to be an event of it's own in and around Glendale. There will be parties with Playboy bunnies and according to http://www.azcentral.com/community/glendale/articles/0730superbowlparty0730.html,
John Travolta and Carmen Electra are among those planning on hosting smash parties for the event. One thing is for certain, celebrities, entertainment, music, activities, and so much more are all now an integral part of today's Super Bowl festivities. Like I said, it's not just about football anymore!! There is something for everyone. Let's not forget the commercials, which are so famous now. Those are worth watching the football for themselves.

Sparks performed one of the best National Athems I have ever heard. You obviously don't know much about music.

The half-time show really sucked. Would have definitely preferred Mary J Blige!

From an engineering point, the audio stunk! Too Much slow compression. It sounded lousy on my home system. My sub-woofer had nothing to do; in other words, poor bass.
