2009 Fantasy Football IDP Defensive Lineman Rankings

A Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet

Josh Wiley
The 2009 fantasy football season is coming up and fantasy players are ready to get their cheat sheets made. Many leagues in 2009 will use Individual Defensive Players or IDP in their drafts and this list should be helpful. Here is the 2009 top 20 defensive lineman rankings.

Top 20 Defensive Lineman for 2009 fantasy football season:

1. Marion Williams, DL Houston

Williams has proven that he deserved to be taken with the first overall pick ahead of Reggie Bush. He is improving every year and should continue to do the same this year. Put Williams as the number defensive lineman for your 2009 IDP cheat sheet.

2. Jared Allen, DL Minnesota

Jared Allen was a great pickup for Minnesota and has a motor that does not stop. He put up great numbers in Minnesota just like he did in Kansas City and is showing no signs of slowing down. Expect Allen to finish the year ranked in the top 3 at the defensive lineman position.

3. Terrell Suggs, DL Baltimore

Suggs continues to rack up the sacks numbers in Baltimore year after year. Put Suggs in your top 5 for draft day and grab him if he slips too far. Suggs is one of those IDP that can make a big difference as he plays Linebacker at times but qualifies as a defensive lineman.

4. Julius Peppers, DL Carolina

Peppers is a top defensive linemen year after year. He always commands double teams but finds a way to still get some sacks. Keep Peppers in the top 5 on your IDP cheat sheet.

5. Justin Tuck, DL NY Giants

Justin Tuck is one of those players that is just fun to watch. He is a physical specimen that has no fear. He will continue to be a top IDP player for fantasy teams in 2009.

6. Aaron Kampman, DL Green Bay

Kampman is Mr. Consistency when it comes to fantasy football defensive lineman. He is good in the area of sacks and tackles. Kampman tends to put up consistent numbers game after game and is one to look at if you want to put in a solid defensive lineman week one and forget about him.

7. Trent Cole, DL Philadelphia

Cole has turned my skepticism to belief. He puts up good sack numbers and is now playing more downs in Philadelphia than he has in previous years. Keep Cole ranked in the top 10 for your fantasy football IDP defensive lineman rankings.

8. Osi Umenyioa, DL NY Giants

Coming off of a year ending injury Osi is a wildcard for the 2009 fantasy football defensive lineman position. If he comes back to form he could finish the season at the top of this list. Do not let him slip too far on draft day as some owners will be just drafting on last years points and might forget about this guy.

9. Justin Smith, DL San Francisco

Smith plays some Linebacker and should be one of the top tacklers at the Defensive Lineman position. A tackler can be beneficial as his numbers will be more steady than others at this position. Rank Smith in your top 10 for your 2009 IDP defensive lineman rankings.

10. Gaines Adams, DL Tampa Bay

Adams is starting to come into his own for Tampa Bay. To finish off the top 10 for defensive lineman, Adams should prove to be a solid pick.

Best of the rest. Rankings 11-20 IDP Defensive Lineman

11. John Abraham, DL Atlanta
12. Chris Long, DL St. Louis
13. Cliff Avril, DL Detoit
14. Dwight Freeney, DL Indianapolis
