2009 Fantasy Football Sleepers: Wide Receiver

From Roddy White to Devin Hester

Josh Wiley
The wide receiver position is often a wild card in fantasy football. Some of the receivers that will go high in the draft will likely put up lesser numbers than some sleeper picks that will come and perform at a top ten level. Wide Receiver sleepers like Greg Jennings and Calvin Johnson affected the title for fantasy leagues in 2008.

Here are the 5 wide receiver sleeper picks for the 2009-2010 fantasy football season:

1. Roddy White- WR Atlanta Falcons

Many fantasy owners have failed to realize that Roddy White is a stud wideout. This will push his draft position lower then it should and make him a top fantasy wide receiver sleeper in 2009. Draft Roddy White as your number one wide receiver and watch the numbers come in. A second year with Matt Ryan should push White to top 7 wideout levels. He has Michael Turner in the backfield to take some attention from him.

2. Dwayne Bowe- WR Kansas City

With no real quarterback to throw to him last season, Bowe still managed to put up a solid fantasy football season for his owners. The Chiefs went out and got Matt Casell in the off season and he should click with Bowe right away. Bowe is a young wideout with lots of talent and his numbers should continue to get better this season. Take a chance on Bowe in 2009 and you will not be disappointed.

3. Roy E. Williams- WR Dallas

Williams was a huge disappointment to fantasy owners last season. His performance will surely drop him way down the fantasy football draft lists of many. Don't be fooled here like the rest. Williams is going to be the go to wide receiver in Dallas and has Tony Romo throwing to him. He is going back to his natural position with Terrell Owens now out of town. Put Roy Williams on your sleeper list on your 2009-2010 fantasy draft list.

4. Braylon Edwards- WR Cleveland

Edwards is another wide receiver that disappointed last season. He can be had cheaply in the 2009-2010 fantasy draft and could bounce back this season. Edwards is still young and has all of the talent to turn it around. Keep an eye on Edwards to see if he gets traded from Cleveland or not. This wide receiver sleeper could take you to a fantasy football title.

5. Devin Hester- WR Chicago

Devin Hester finally has a quarterback that has a big enough arm to match his speed in Jay Cutler. Look for Hester to get open like he did this season but for Cutler to turn those routes into some long touchdowns. Hester should be adapting to the wide receiver position and should improve on his route running in 2009. Mark Hester on your sleeper list of your fantasy football cheat sheet.

The 2009-2010 fantasy football season is just around the corner. As you prepare for your fantasy football draft, make a list of sleepers that think will perform ahead of there draft position. Consider the 5 on my list. Good Luck!
