2009 Hair Trends for Women

Blunt Bangs

The trend of blunt bangs that ever so slightly brush over the eyes will likely continue on into 2009. This creates a mysterious, fun look that many women (and men) love. When I first caught onto the blunt bang look I wondered why I hadn't thought of it sooner.

This is not a very complicated cut to make; the most important tip is to part the hair towards the crown of the head and make sure that it is even on both sides. Then make a straight cut across the hair with new, razor sharp hair scissors, just below your eyebrows. Don't use a dull scissor because that can create split ends, a look that is never a good hair trend for women; not in 2009 or beyond.

Short Pixie Look

Another hair trend for women in 2009 is the pixie cut. Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham helped make the pixie cropped look popular. This is an extremely short cut that is best done by a professional who really knows what he or she is doing. The look is messy, as if the woman has just rumpled her hair with both hands in frustration. The great thing about this hair look is that you can go informal with a slight bang, or formal by brushing all the hair back and going crazy with your hair spray to form it to perfection.

Personally, I wouldn't do a pixie look for myself. The idea of cutting my hair this short would be similar to a samson and delilah scenario! But for some women it is the perfect low maintenance look. It takes a very bold woman who isn't obsessed with hair to go for this bold cut.

Straight and Shiny

Bone straight hair is never going out of style; this is evidenced by all of the sales of flat irons every year (I have about four myself). The important thing to note is that this look will not only need to be straight, but also very shiny and striking. So hair care products that add a magnificent shine to the hair will also be popular, such as John Frieda's line of Frizz Ease products. There are also new hair straightening irons like that Instyler hair straightening tool from television that will help you to achieve this shiny, straight look.

Wavy Flowy

Wavy long hair will also be a popular hair trend in 2009, so dust off your crimping iron. But wait! Be sure that the waving tool you use creates large billowy waves, because tight crimps are still out of style and probably will never come back. The look you are trying to achieve is a flowy, airy look free from styling products and hair spray. When you move your hair should move with you.
