2009 Head2Head Fantasy Football Roster & Explanation: Salary Cap League

Michael Luchies
Head2Head.com has a very popular salary cap fantasy football league for prizes. I have four teams and here is one of my current preseason roster and explanations behind the picks. The total salary must not exceed $100M so you have to do your best in selecting some sleepers. Good luck this year.

Matt Schaub 16.8 Q Hou
Adrian Petterson 16.2 R Min
LeRon McClain 6.2 R Bal
T.J. Duckett 4.0 R Sea
Andre Johnson 13.1 W Hou
Greg Jennings 9.5 W GB
T.J. Houshmanzadeh 8.2 W Cin
Jeff Reed 6.2 K Pit
Houston 11.8 D Hou
Chad Ocho Cinco 8.0 Flex Cin
Total Salary Used= $100 M

Matt Schaub is set to have a great season in 2009 with plenty of weapons at his disposal. Drew Brees is 20.0M, Manning 19.3, Brady 18.8M. I like Schaub at 16.8 to put up numbers similar to Manning, but at a cheaper price.

Adrian Peterson is very expensive at 16.2, but you almost need him in this league because of his production and the number of other fantasy owners that also own him. Keeping Peterson means that you will have to have some lower valued players on your roster.

LeRon McClain is a great buy at 6.2M. McClain should have plenty of touchdowns and carries as McGahee continues to become injured and his production is slowing. McClain had 900+ yards and 10 touchdowns in 2009. McGahee had only 671 yards rushing and 7 touchdowns while battling injuries last season. McClain is one of the best buys under $7M.

T.J. Duckett is a risky play, but at $4M I'll take that risk. Duckett has a nose for the end zone and is expected to be used more in '09. Duckett had 8 TD's in '08 and I like him to score 10+ this season. I needed a very cheap RB for my roster, and Duckett was the best option under $5M.

Andre Johnson is possibly the best receiver in the game, up there with Fitzgerald. Johnson had 1575 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns and will have better numbers if you can believe it. Schaub is forming a strong bond with Johnson, and they should hook up on many occasions in 2009.

Greg Jennings is my favorite WR under 10M, even over Steve Smith. Donald Driver is disgruntled and Aaron Rodgers is very comfortable with Jennings. Jennings had 9 touchdowns and 1292 yards.

T.J. Houshmanzadeh is very confident that he will put up pro bowl numbers. He is not only upset about being rated a 91 on the new Madden video game, he expects for himself and Hasselbeck to have career years. It could be all hype but I think Houshmanzadeh will live up to his own hype this year.

I like the Houston D at 11.8 (Steelers 14.5). Houston's D is a young and improving defense who should have plenty of sacks and interceptions.

My Flex (utility) player is Chad Ocho Cinco. Chad is another risky play, but at only 8M he is worth the risk over other top tier receivers who are over $13M. Chad is discounted due to his antics and his poor performance last year. Chad and Carson Palmer have been working over the off season and appear to have both of their careers back on track.

As far as bye weeks concerned, I like to not pick week 4 bye players, so I can pick them up later after my players have bye's. Trades are $3 a piece so bye strategy is very important in Head2Head Salary Cap Fantasy Football.
