There may not be as much going on for Labor Day as the Fourth of July, but the events we do have for 2009 Labor Day in Bradenton, Florida will be just as exciting and just as entertaining. Think of it as the Fourth of July without the fireworks.

You will find several events taking place over the Labor Day weekend, as well as on Labor Day. They aren't firework displays or the gatherings you would associate with the Fourth of July, but they will keep you and your family pretty busy. I wanted to put them all together for you, so you won't have to search everywhere, trying to find some kind of event or festival to attend.

I've included as much information as I could gather for these Labor Day festivals and events, and I do sincerely hope it will help you decide where you and your family or friends will spend part of Labor day. The activities listed start in Venice and go up to St. Petersburg.

This craft festival in Venice will be located on West Miami Avenue at Tamiami Trail, and will present at least 100 craft persons from all over the nation, that will show their original crafts. You will also discover a Gourmet Marketplace where you will have the opportunity to purchase gourmet specialty foods in bulk, flowers, plants and herbs. It's an outdoor festival that draws almost 10,000 people each year. So prepare to make a day of it and go see all the vendors, the crafts and the food. It also has handicap access.

Take the Labor Day tour of the one acre botanical garden which is located on the corner of 38th Street and Coconut in North Sarasota. This garden has at least 300 varieties of palms and thousands of bamboos, aroids, succulents and bromeliads. There is also a Koi pond and waterfall with Amazon water lilies. So make it an easy day take the tour with your family before heading off the eat lunch.

The 63rd Annual Labor Day Regatta is scheduled to take place on Sarasota Bay over the Labor Day weekend. If you're interested in attending the races, but don't know to get there, just go down 41 until you get to John Ringling Causeway. Turn onto the Causeway, heading west toward St. Armands Circle. When you get to the Circle go right away from the Circle. Follow the signs for Mote Marine until you get to Ken Thompson Parkway. It will be before you get to the New Pass Bridge, and the Squadron Grounds are at the end of that road.

The grounds are open from 7 am to 7 pm, but if you're a visitor, please park outside the Grounds on Saturday and Sunday. The Annual Labor Day Regatta generally attracts from 200 to 300 sailors from all over the U.S. and Canada. There will be 5 race courses, refreshments, live music, barbecue and an awards ceremony. This regatta is the largest all-class regatta for sailboats in the Southeast, so go enjoy the races, the food and the music.

Go cheer your favorite soccer teams on to victory! There are now 205 teams and counting and 25 soccer fields. The players come from all over the state to compete for prizes each year, and the soccer teams are made up of children from ages 9 to 12 and teenagers ages 13 to 19. The soccer matches will take place at the Sarasota Polo Grounds in Lakewood Ranch, which is on Polo Club Lane and Lorraine Road.

You get to view three events in one, so you can choose to see all three are pick the one you think your family or friends would want to see the most. This is the 5th running/6th Annual Nolhtairt, where people who want to participate in a triathlon can get their chance.

The event will begin at the south end of Coquina Beach, which is 2650 Gulf Dr. S, on Bradenton Beach. The participants will run 3 miles around Longboat pass, then they will return and cycle 13 to 23 miles to St. Armands Circle. The final event is where the participants will take a 1/4 mile swim 1/4 mile swim along the shore in shallow water.

When the event is over, there will be grilling under the huge trees along the beach. If you want to participate in the party, you need to RSVP and please bring a side dish, sodas or dessert. Why not bring your family and friends to the 17th Annual Canes Cross Country Classic 5k and 1 mile race. This is an open event for anyone who wants to participate or just be a spectator. It will begin at G T Bray Park, which is on 51st Street. The 5k starts at 8 am and the 1 mile begins at 9 am. The race will start from the main entrance of the park, and you can park your cars off the main road near the tennis courts, soccer fields and the restrooms. You can also park at the Colonial Baptist Church, just as long as you don't jump over the fence! Please!

Join in the Salsa Dancing at The Pier in St. Petersburg on Labor Day. It will feature Greg Richardson from B.A.I.L.E. , along with the Zumba Girls, and other Latino Bands. If you can't dance, that's okay! Go anyway and maybe you will be able to learn the Meringue, Bachata or even the Salsa. This all takes place on the Waterside Courtyard.
