2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to Feature an Eclectic Mix of Musical Performances

A New Route, New Balloons and an Interesting Mix of Performances Spell Big Changes for the 83rd Annual Macy's Parade

The 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature an interesting mix of musical performances when it kicks off its 83rd annual parade on November 26th. With a little something for everyone, pop music veterans Carly Simon and Cyndi Lauper will both perform during the 2009 Macy's parade, as will opera singer Andrea Bocelli, reggae singer Ziggy Marley, and county music star Billy Currington.

Other musical performers include Gloria Gaynor, American Idol's Katherine McPhee, rock band Boys like Girls and Jimmy Fallon and his late night band, The Roots.

In addition to the featured musical performance and the traditional giant balloons and floats, fans can look forward to seeing the cast and muppets from Sesame Street, the cast of Shrek, the Radio City Rockettes and the cast of the popular children's show, Yo Gabba Gabba, who will perform a new dance. The parade will also introduce 4 new giant balloons-- the Pillsbury Doughboy, Spiderman, Sailor Mickey Mouse and an ice skating Ronald McDonald.

According to the Macy's Parade Official Website, the parade will also re-route this year, from its traditional route along Broadway to a new route down 7th Avenue. According to The New York Times, the parade route change, which completely bypasses Time Square and Broadway, was made due to a plan to make a section of Broadway a pedestrian-only zone and also to provide more room for parade spectators. New Yorkers and parade veterans have a mixed reaction to the parade route change.

For more information on the 83rd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade or the new parade route, go to the official parade website (www.macysparade.com ) or call the Macy's Parade Hotline at (212) 494-4495.

The 83rd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be hosted by NBC Today Show hosts Matt Lauer, Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer. The parade airs on November 26th at 9:00 am EST.
