A Brief Overview of the 2009 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game Lineup

The 80th MLB All-Star game will take place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The Midsummer Classic kicks off Tuesday, July 14th at 8 p.m. ET and will be nationally televised on FOX. President and White Sox fan Barack Obama will throw out the first pitch.

Joe Maddon of the Tampa Bay Rays and Charlie Manuel of the Philidelphia Phillies will manage their respective AL and NL All-Star teams.

The 2009 MLB All-Star game starting lineups are as follows:

The starting lineup for the NL All-Stars will be Cardinals Albert Pujols at first base, Phillies Chase Utley at second base, Mets David Wright at third base, Marlins Hanley Ramirez at shortstop and Cardinals Yadier Molina behind the plate. Brewers Ryan Braun, Phillies Raul Ibanez, and Mets Carlos Beltran will start in the outfield However, Carlos Beltran is injured with a bruised knee and will likely not play.

The starting lineup for the AL All-Stars will be Yankees Mark Teixeira at first base, Red Sox Dustin Pedroia at second base, Rays Evan Longoria at third base, Yankees Derek Jeter at shortstop and the Twins Joe Mauer behind the plate. Red Sox Jason Bay, Mariners Ichiro Suzuki and Rangers Josh Hamilton will fill out the outfield.

This year the All-Star rosters were increased to 33 man rosters. Fans voted for the starting lineup of 8 position players and 8 pitchers. The managers picked the remaining 16 players. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for one more player on each roster before 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The Boston Red Sox lead the AL roster with six team members: Dustin Pedroia, 2B; Jason Bay, OF; Josh Beckett, P; Jonathan Papelbon, P; Tim Wakefield, P; Kevin Youkilis, 1B.

The New York Mets lead the NL roster with four team members: David Wright, 3B; Carlos Beltran, OF; Francisco Rodriguez, P; Johan Santana, P.

The 42 year old knuckle ball pitcher Tim Wakefield will make his first All-Star appearance. He has a 10-3 record and is tied for the league lead in wins.

Toronto Blue Jay Adam Lind was left off the lineup despite a .308 batting average, 18 homers and 57 RBI.

Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera lead in All-Star appearances with 10 each.

Albert Pujols received the most votes from fans with over 5 million votes. He is second in most All-Star votes ever behind Ken Griffey jr. He will be starting in his home park along with Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.

The AL team has gone unbeaten in the past twelve appearances, winning eleven games and tying 7-7 in 2002.

Update:
On Thursday afternoon, MLB announced the final players to be voted onto the AL and NL all-star teams. Fans selected Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino and Detroit Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge to fill out the NL and AL lineups, respectively.

The Philadelphia Phillies now tie the Mets with four team members on the NL roster.
