2009 Memorial Day Events and Festivals in Colorado Springs

Robert Archibald
Memorial Day is on Monday, May 25, 2009. My suggestions for people in the Colorado Springs area are as follows:

This is the most popular activity for Memorial Day. Old Colorado City will host the 34th Annual Territory Days to commemorate Old Colorado City as the first capitol of the Colorado Territory in 1861. This is a great free family event with activities for everyone. The event runs May 23 - 25. Times for Saturday & Sunday are 10am to 7pm., Monday 10am to 6pm. Included these days will be gold panning, mechanical bull ride, climbing walls, rides for kids, beer garden, entertainment, food and craft vendors, and much more. Parking is limited, so ride the free shuttle from Coronado High School, located on Filmore & Mesa Road. Shuttles begin running at 9:45am.

Celebration of Art begins May 23 - 26 from 10am-6pm. Location is at Memorial Park, Manitou Springs. This event includes crafts, art, and food vendors. After enjoying the art displays, take a stroll through historic Manitou Springs. Here you will find 10 mineral springs to drink from, each uniquely different.

Evergreen Cemetery will be hosting their annual event on the 25th. The event includes the Colorado Springs Police Department Pipe and Drum Corp., and re-enactors to represent different veterans in various wars. A balloon release and refreshments will be served. Activities are due to start around 1pm. The cemetery is located at 1005 S. Hancock Avenue.

Flying W Ranch is located at 3330 Chuckwagon Road. Reservations are required by calling 1-800-232-3599. If you do not want to barbeque at home or the park, this is a great way to enjoy the day. The ranch opens at 5pm and dinner is served about 7pm. That gives you plenty of time to explore the Western Village. There you will find 12 shops, railroad ride, blacksmith demo, and beautiful backdrops of the Garden of Gods formations. Dinner is served on a cowboy tin plate. Menu items include beef or barbeque chicken, baked potatoes, beans, applesauce and spice cake. Finish off the night with the Flying W Wrangler playing cowboy music and comedy.
