2009 Mongoose Kaldi Single Commuter Bike

Bicycle commuting has become an increasingly inviting transportation choice thanks to climbing gas prices. Bicycling is environmentally friendly. The relatively low impact exercise benefits of bicycle commuting are an added bonus to the fuel savings. Commuter bikes - sometimes also called city bikes - are the result of the currently growing popularity of bicycle transportation.

There are some special features to look for in a commuter bike. You want a bike that allows you to sit upright. Sitting upright increases your range of vision. If you are commuting - to work or wherever - you need to be able to see the traffic. You also want the traffic to be able to see you so you will want to make sure you have reflectors. (Don't worry if your bicycle does not come with adequate reflectors - they are relatively easy to install.) Thin tires (compared to chunky mountain bike tires) allow commuter bikes ease in picking up speed. (I had a racing bicycle several years ago and the thin tires really did allow the bike to move quickly on smooth, paved surfaces.)

The 2009 Mongoose Kaldi Single features an aluminum frame and 26" steel unicrown forks. The aluminum frame makes it easy to move the Kaldi Single around while the steel forks add durability to the suspension. Gel hand grips on Mongoose café racer handlebars add comfort for long rides. The Mongoose sport comfort seat is designed for just what its name says - comfort.

Product Specs for the Mongoose Kaldi Single: (also found on the Mongoose website along with a photo of the bike.) The crankset is ProWheel forged alloy 28/38/48T.
