2009 Mongoose Khyber Super

The Mongoose Khyber is a dual suspension bike best suited for rough terrain and the bumpiest of the bumpy roads; rocky terrain is where a dual suspension truly shines. Being heavier and requiring more maintenance than other model mountain bikes are the drawbacks to this otherwise enjoyable ride. Another thing to consider is that dual suspension bikes are a little more expensive than their hard tail counterpart. If you can't afford a good reliable suspension bike like the 2009 Mongoose Khyber, think about investing in a hard tail mountain bike with quality parts from a reputable bike dealer. Kmart or Wal-Mart just won't do for a real rider as the mountain bike might fall apart after a serious day of riding. The 2009 Mongoose Khyber is considered to be more of a downhill cycle, it's not the lightest bike in the world but it's light enough to get you back up those hills for the exhilarating ride down.

Some new additions to this model from the previous year are an adjustable seat controlled by a switch on the handle bar. So you can raise or lower the seat as you ride pretty cool if I can say so myself. There is a new crank rig on this model having a lower gear than what double ring cranks have had before a 22 tooth low gear and a 36 tooth large gear, utilizing a compact front derailleur housed in an ultra durable polycarbonate dash guard. This bike is tubeless ready utilizing Z.T.R. Flow Rims it's shipped with 2 tubes plus 2 valves, so all the rider has to do is remove the inner tubes and place the valves in the rim. After placing the valves you add the fluid also shipped with the bike then presto a tubeless setup the effect being a weight reduction to the bike a ½ to ¾ of a pound, an excellent system for reducing weight and at the same time avoiding pinch flats to your tires. This model Mongoose bike was equipped at the time of the review with Kenda Carter Excavator Tires, these tires have a dual tread compound so they run harder on flat ground down the middle that helps the tire pedal fast and perform more reliably for the ride. When leaning into a turns the rubber on the outside knob has a slow rebound meaning that the knobs actually move for the turn and slowly return to position.

This 2009 Mongoose bike features the Marzocchi 55 ATA fork that has an air travel adjuster (that's what A.T.A. stands for) on the opposite side of the fork there are compression adjusters so you can fine tune the front suspension settings to fit your needs. The last feature we'll be going over in this mountain bike review for the 2009 Mongoose Khyber is the Free Drive design frame. Which lets the shock absorbers respond to more subtle bumps, contributing to a smoother more efficient ride overall the average weight for this bike is 31 to 34 pounds depending on assembly. Finding a negative comment on this bike is slim to none all I get is good things from rider experiences. The MSRP for the 2009 Khyber Super is $3499.99 according to mongoose.com and for the serious rider every dime is well spent on this awesome mountain bike
