Kansas, Kentucky Lead Pre-Season Top 20

With Kansas returning the core of their stars from last season's team along with star shooting guard Xavier Henry changing his commitment from Memphis to the Jayhawks, Bill Self is lined up to have a Final Four contending team next season. The biggest news of the past two months, however, was new Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach, John Calipari signing the number 1 recruiting class in NCAA basketball to land the Wildcats in the number 2 overall spot in the 2009 pre-season rankings. The top five is rounded out by the Villanova Wildcats, Michigan State Spartans, and North Carolina.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 1 Kansas

The Jayhawks are retuning the grunch of their linup from last year's team as well as star recruit Xavier Henry. They will be entering the season as both the Big 12 and NCAA Tournament favorites.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 2 Kentucky

Coach Cal has signed the number 1 NCAA basketball recruiting class and is poised to have a big season in Lexington next season. With the number 1overall recruit in John Wall and star Patrick Patterson returning, many expect the Wildcats to be battling Kansas for the number 1 ranked spot all season.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 3 Villanova

When Scottie Reynolds pulled out of the 2009 NBA Draft, Nova instantly became a Top 5 team to go with their highly touted 2009 NCAA recruiting class.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 4 Michigan State

With three starters coming back, State is going to be the favorite for the Big 10 title and we could see them in the Final Four again.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 5 North Carolina

Roy Williams is bringing in star recruits John Henson and Leslie McDonald to go with returning stars Ed Davis and Deon Thompson. Look for the Tar Heels to be going deep in the post-season again with 30+ wins!

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 6 Purdue

Purdue could easily be one of the top two ranked teams by the end of the seaosn. JaJuan Johnson + the majority of last year's starts returning will equal a big season for the Boilermakers.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 7 Texas

Texas brings in a big recruiting class next season

The Long Horns have a great recruiting class headed by Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton. They're going to give Kansas a run for the Big 12 Title and will be a force to be reckoned with in the post season.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 8 Duke

This is likely a bit high for Duke unless they bring in some late guard help. Gerald Henderson is going to be missed, but they will be a top 10 team by the end of the season.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 9 West Virginia

The Mountaineers point guard, Joe Mazzulla is one of the most under-rated 1 guards in the country. Put him with Devin Ebanks next season, and West Virginia may challenge for the Big East title.

2009 NCAA Basketball Rankings - No. 10- Ohio State

Even though OSU lost B.J. Mullens to the 2009 NBA draft, they have Evan Turner back along with David Lighty and are going to be one of the teams contending for the Big 10 title.
