2009 NCAA Tournament Results. Memphis (32-3) fans had a scare today in a game that many thought would be a blow-out from the start against CSU Northridge (17-14). The Tigers shot poorly until the last seven minutes of the game going 22 for 49 to that point of the game. After that, Memphis went 7 for 10 while Northridge went cold shooting 3 for 11 and pulled out an 11 point win after being favored by 20 points.

2009 NCAA Tournament Results - Memphis Tigers

The Memphis Tigers dodged a bullet today in what could have been the first upset by a number 2 seed in the NCAA tournament since Hampton upset Iowa State in 2001. The Tigers were led by unlikely hero, Roburt Sallie who scored a school record 35 points in a NCAA tournament game with 35 points and 10 three pointers. His 10 three pointers also set a NCAA record for most made in a first round game and came just when the Tigers needed the boost to win this first round game.

2009 NCAA Tournament Results - CSU Northridge Matadors

CSU Northridge performed better than anyone thought they would against the Memphis TIgers today. They held the tigers to less than 50% shooting from the field until the final seven minutes when the Tigers pulled out the victory. The Matadors lost their two best players during the regular season but were still able to win their conference tournament and play Memphis at a higher level than anyone predicted before the game with Memphis coming in as 20 point favorites. CSU had a balanced attack against the Tigers with four starters being in double digits and reserve Rodrigue Mels chipping in with 15 points. In the end, however, CSU can say they played the number 3 team in the country down to the wire.
