2009 NCAA Tournament: Second Round Predictions and Preview Saturday Games

2009 NCAA Tournament Predictions. We're two days into the NCAA tournament with second round games starting on Saturday. We've been pretty on-the-mark so far with our first round predictions, so are providing ones for Saturday games in this article. Maryland was able to pull the upset in the first round and goes to take on the Nr2 seed Memphis Tigers who had some trouble with CSU Northridge yesterday but are still favored to win. Another great game will be the UCLA-Villanova matchup which will likely be determined by who's back-court has the best game. The predictions are based off of the last five games of performance by each team with my assessment on which has the edge in the matchup.

2009 NCAA Tournament Predictions - East Region -Second Round - Saturday

6 - UCLA (26-8) PAC 10

3 - Villanova (27-7) Big East

Prediction:Villanova, 82-76

Notes: Villanova has worked out the kinks from their tight first round game.

7 - Texas (23-11) Big 12

3 - Duke (29-6) ACC

Prediction: Duke 72 - 65

Notes: This ends up being a tighter game than many think due to the balanced play of Texas. Duke's athleticism just proves to be too much.

2009 NCAA Tournament Predictions - West Region -Second Round - Saturday

9 - Texax A+M (24-9) - Big 12

1 - Connecticut (28-4) - Big East

Prediction: UConn - 88-74

Notes: UConn continues to roll, A+M just can't keep up.

4 - Washington Huskies (26-8) - PAC 10

5 - Purdue Boilermakers (26-9) - Big 10

Prediction: Washington - 68-61

Notes: This game is hard to call and could go either way.

2 - Memphis Tigers (32-3) - Conference USA

10 - Maryland Terps (21-13) - ACC
Prediction: Memphis - 74-69

Notes: This game is going to be close. If Memphis makes it past the Terps they are likely going to the Final Four!

2009 NCAA Tournament Predictions - South East Region -Second Round - Saturday

8 - LSU (27-7)

1 - North Carolina (29-4)

Prediction: UNC 94-80

Notes: LSU finally runs out of steam.

12 - W. Kentucky (25-8) - Sun Belt

4 - Gonzaga (27-5) - WCC

Prediction: WKU - 88-80

Notes: WKU rolls to the Suite 16 in this battle of the mid-majors.

10 Michigan (21-13) - Big 10

2 - Oklahoma (28-5) - Big 12

Prediction: OK - 81-74

Notes: The first half is tight, but the Sooners continue to roll in the end.
