Jets and Seahawks Make Big Improvements in the 2009 Draft

2009 NFL Draft. Two teams that came out as big winners in the 2009 NFL Draft are the New York Jets and the Seattle Seahawks. Each team was able to get positioned to strengthen their rosters where needed to position themselves for the future, and fans hope more trips back to the NFL Playoffs! After failing to make the playoffs with Brett Favre at the helm, the Jets were in need of not just a quarterback, but a 'face' for the franchise, which they got in Quarterback, Mark Sanchez. The Seahawks were able to make huge strides in both their defense and offensive line!

2009 NFL Draft - Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks took the best overall-rated player in the 2009 NFL draft with Aaron Curry (OLB). Curry will complement the young linebackers on the team and help the Seahawks defense continue to improve and help get the team into the postseason. Seattle was also able to trade to get into position to draft Oregon lineman, Max Unger, to address the team's two largest needs. Seattle fleshed out their third and sixth round picks with Penn State's, Deon Butler (WR) and Rutgers QB, Mike Teel to bring in talent in positions that the team has needs, but not pressing one's for next season.

2009 NFL Draft - New York Jets

The Jets traded up to get their future, franchise quarterback in Mark Sanchez. Even though he only had 16 starts under his belt in college, Sanchez is regarded as one of two potential franchise quarterbacks in the 2009 draft. Sanchez made a huge impression on New York owner, Woody Johnson earlier in the spring, and is seen as fitting in with Rex Ryan's defense-orientated system very well. Sanchez is likely to be in position to be the Jets' starting quarterback on opening day. The Jets had to give up a lot to get Sanchez, but they were also able to land Iowa running back, Shonn Greene who will be a potential replacement for Thomas Jones. They also picked up Nebraska Guard, Matt Slauson who has decent speed and will be expected to adjust to playing on the inside in the NFL.
