2009 NFL Mock Draft: Stafford, Monroe, Sanchez and Crabtree to Go in First Four Picks
Forecasting the 2009 NFL Draft Picks
2009 NFL Mock Draft Picks 1 - 10
1 - Detroit Lions
With the undergrads all staying put, Matt Stafford is the #1 quarterback prospect in the draft. The Lions need to emulate the Falcons pick of Matt Ryan last year and take an experienced starting QB to help turn the franchise around.
Round 1 - QB Matt Stafford, Georgia Bulldogs
2 - St. Louis Rams
The Rams need an OT. Smith could go in place of Monroe in this pick, but it's a good bet that St. Louis takes one of the two players with the #2 overall pick!
Round 1 - OT Eugene Monroe, Virginia Cavaliers
3 - Kansas City Chiefs
It's really up in the air on if the Chief's take an OT or try to kick-start the franchise with a new QB. My choice is that new GM Scott Pioli will want to choose a new face for the club and go with the second rated QB in the 2009 draft!
Round 1 - QB Mark Sanchez, USC Trojans
The single biggest need Seattle has is a quality Wide Receiver who can stay healthy. Michael Crabtree, winner of the Paul Warfield Trophy for the 2008 season, fits the bill perfectly for the teams needs.
Round 1 - WR Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech Red Raiders
5 - Cleveland Browns
Mangini needs a good OLB to help flesh out the 3-4 and force mis-matches in the pass rush. Curry could play inside or out in the Browns defense and is a great fit for their first round pick in the 2009 NFL draft.
Round 1 - LB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest Demon Deacons
6 - Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals gave up 51 sacks last year. In order to have a shot at the playoffs they need drastic improvement on protecting Palmer. If Andre Smith is gone, then expect them to take Monroe with their first pick.
Round 1 - OT Andre Smith, Alabama Crimson Tide
7 - Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are another team needing to improve the offensive line.
Michael Oher will fit in nicely as a punishing run-blocker on the right side. If Henderson gets hurt or underperforms in 2009, the Raiders could move Oher over to take his place.
Round 1 - OT Michael Oher, Ole Miss Rebels
8 - Jacksonville Jaguars
A toss-up on whether the Jags go with an offensive lineman or Jeremy Maclin. Maclin helps the Jags begin fixing their WR core so he's out guess for who the Jags will take in the 2009 NFL Mock draft.
Round 1 - WR Jeremy Maclin, Missouri Tigers
9 - Green Bay Packers
Green Bay will likely shift to the 3-4 defense under Capers and needs a capable pass rusher. Orakpo a great pass rusher for the Longhorns and would likely convert to OLB if taken by Green Bay.
Round 1 - DE Brian Orakpo, Texas Longhorns
10 - San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers need pass rushing to continue their improvement. Everette Brown fits the bill if Orakpo is taken already.
Round 1 - DE/OLB Everette Brown, Florida State Seminoles
2009 NFL Mock Draft Picks 11-20
11 - Buffalo Bills
Like a number of other teams, the Bills need better up-front protection for the quarterback. Look for them to take Jason Smith (if he's still around) with their first pick.
Round 1 - OT Jason Smith, Baylor
12 - Denver Broncos
With Mike Nolan coming in as Josh McDaniels' defensive coordinator, look the Broncos to make picks to shore up personnel to play the 3-4 defense. My thought process for the 2009 NFL mock draft is that they will take Rey Maualuga to start the defensive rebuilding project.
Round 1 - ILB Rey Maualuga, USC Trojans
13 - Washington Redskins
The Redskins will need a right tackle to replace Jon Jansen at some point in the next two seasons (if not sooner). Eben Britton fits the bill and should be able to play on either side depending on injuries and performance of the incumbents.
Round 1 - OT Eben Britton, Arizona Wildcats
14 - New Orleans Saints
The Saints need one more defender to shore up the current defense. Look for them to go after James Lauriniaitis to flesh out their manning.
Round 1 - ILB James Laurinaitis, Ohio State Buckeyes
15 - Houston Texans
Houston's secondary has not been performing to NFL standards for several years. William Moore may be the best choice for them to take if they're not able to trade the pick for a better deal. If they stay with the 15th pick, my guess in the 2009 NFL Mock draft is that they will take Moore.
Round 1 - S William Moore, Missouri Tigers
16 - San Diego Chargers
The Chargers have Darren Sproles hitting free agency, and LaDaninian Tomlison is a question mark. Taking the most capable RB available makes sense. My choice is Chris Wells, but don't be surprised if they go after Moreno or Percy Harvin instead if they are available.
Round 1 - RB Chris Wells, Ohio State Buckeyes
17 - New York Jets
One of the reasons the Jets failed at the end of the season was their lack of strength at the corner back positions. Look for them to shore up in this area with the first round pick.
Round 1 - CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State Buckeyes
18 - Chicago Bears
The Bears need help at wide receiver and defensive end so don't be surprised if they go with Percy Harvin or Jeremy Maclin with this pick.
Round 1 - DE Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech
19 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs need a running b ack. If Moreno is gone by this pick and Wells is available look for the Bucs to go that direction.
Round 1 - RB Knowshon Moreno, Georgia Bulldogs
20 - Detroit Lions (from Dallas)
If the Lions don't take an OT with the first pick, they will take the best available OT with this pick after giving up 52 sacks last year.
Round 1 - OT William Beatty, Connecticut
2009 NFL Mock Draft Picks 21 - 32
21 - Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles will likely focus on shoring up the offensive line with this pick. Alex Mack is the top lineman left by this point as well as the number one center.
Round 1 - C Alex Mack, California Bears
22 - Minnesota Vikings
If there are no more upper-tier offensive tackles left, the Vikings will look to take the best corner available at this point.
Round 1 - CB Vontae Davis, Illinois
23 - New England Patriots
The Pats defense only had 31 sacks on the season last year. Look for Belichick to continue to upgrade his defensive core in this draft with Mike Vrabel starting to get old (NFL-wise) at 34. My choice in the 2009 NFL mock draft is they take Aaron Maybin.
Round 1 - DE/OLB Aaron Maybin Penn State
24 - Atlanta Falcons
The one offensive component missing in the Falcon's offense last year was a great tight end. If Brandon Pettigrew isn't snagged earlier, he would be a great choice for the Falcons.
Round 1 - TE Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State Cowboys
25 - Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins have a need to fill the left guard position. Duke Robinson would fill this need to help them improve on their turn-around season in 2008.
Round 1 - G Duke Robinson, Oklahoma Sooners
26 - Baltimore Ravens
Ray Lewis is rumored to be playing anywhere but Baltimore next year. With Bart Scott and Terrell Suggs also unknowns, drafting a LB makes sense for Baltimore. Clint Sintim fits the bill from UVA.
Round 1 - OLB Clint Sintim, Virginia Cavaliers
27 - Indianapolis Colts
The Colts need to shore up their run defense. They may also go with an OT if there is an upper tier choice left on the board. For the 2009 NFL mock draft, I went with the DT Peria Jerry.
Round 1 - DT Peria Jerry, Ole Miss Rebels
28 - Philadelphia Eagles (from Carolina)
The Eagles need to find a replacement for Brian Dawkings who is 36 in October. It may not be needed until 2 seasons from now, but hard to predict. Louis Delmas looks to be a great pick for this spot.
Round 1 - FS Louis Delmas, Western Michigan
29 - New York Giants
The Giants will either go with Paul Kroger or a linebacker depending on some choices they have to make with Mathias Kiwanuka.
Round 1 - DE Paul Kruger, Utah
30 - Tennessee Titans
If Harvin makes it this deep in the draft, the Titans will take him because of his skill at RB and WR. Once Vince Young takes back over from Kerry Collins, Harvin is the perfect player to compliment Young's skillset.
Round 1 - WR/RB Percy Harvin, Florida Gators
31 (Dependent on Outcome of Super Bowl) - Arizona Cardinals
Arizona needs to improve the backfield to continue their high-level of performance into next season. My choice for the 2009 NFL Mock draft is they take LeSean McCoy with this pick.
Round 1 - RB LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh
32 (Dependent on outcome of Super Bowl) - Pittsburgh Steelers
One area the Steelers need to improve in for next season is the offensive line. The Sooners' Duke Preston seemed like the best choice when making my 2009 NFL mock draft picks!
Round 1 - OG Duke Preston, Oklahoma Sooners

Post a Commenthey great article. im hoping you are right with Brian Orakpo lasting till the 9th pick for the Packers. and as for the Lions, they should just trade the #1 pick to Denver for Cutler.
That's funny, mine was a C4C as well!
You scooped me on this. I took down the C4C for AC. I got 2 days left on it. I am about to post up this quick article on Sanchez right now. I have seen him fall down to 10th on some draft boards...
Jenkins will be gone before pick #17 I would think... enjoyed the read!
well written!
Great work ;-}
