2009 NFL Week 6 Picks and Predictions

Chris Houston
Here are my 2009 NFL Week 6 picks and predictions. Let's focus on the week 6 matchup that everybody wants to talk about. Or should be talking about! The New York Giants are rolling into New Orleans with a perfect 5-0 record. Eli Manning has looked like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL on a weekly basis. But so has Saints QB Drew Brees entering week 6. My picks and predictions will be tested deeply with this absolutely huge NFC showdown. It isn't easy picking a winner in this 2009 NFL tilt.

New Orleans is also perfect at 4-0. Usually you would think homefield advantage or the team with the better defense would win. In that case, it would be a tie because New Orleans is home and the Giants defense is in Super Bowl shape. My picks and predictions for this week 6 battle? Flip a coin really on this one.
But I see 2 Eli Manning TD passes and the Giants blitz Brees over and over and over again. Brees gets some points on the board but not enough. It's a Giant victory 27-23 over the Saints.

My upset of the week in week 6 of the 2009 NFL season will take place out west! I am going to jump outside the Broncos box and predict San Diego will end the unbeaten start for Denver. The Broncos have proven me wrong before. But my pick is Chargers win 27-10. Kyle Orton and the lack of Denver offense finally proves too much for a tough Denver defense to overcome. Orton manages a good game normally. But not in this one. 2 picks and the Broncos fall from the ranks of the unbeaten. Philip Rivers is sharper than normal against an undefeated team during a nationally televised game.

Other 2009 NFL week 6 matchups? Cincinnati struggles with visiting Houston but manages to win in the end again 23-21. Cedric Benson rumbles for 115 years and Carson Palmer makes big plays when he needs to.

Green Bay pounds Detroit in week 6 by a 35-9 advantage. Aaron Rodgers puts up some great stats in the first three quarters before the Pack lets Ryan Grant top 100 yards against the lowly Lions.

Minnesota hosts Baltimore in what could be a huge game for both teams. The Vikings somehow manage to pull out a win over the Ravens 27-24. Adrian Peterson with 1 touchdown or less against a stingy stack the line Ravens defense but Brett Favre and Chester Taylor hook up 2 times for scores. In other words, the Ravens need to watch the dump off passes to win in this one.

Pittsburgh is back on track and puts Cleveland back to reality with a 43-10 thumping. I'm being generous with the 10 points here and figure some might come in garbage time or a big special teams play. Ben Roethlisberger only needs to play a half in this one. But he still plays three quarters much to the chagrin of NFL analysts everywhere. Steelers roll.

My 2009 NFL Week 6 picks and predictions continue with Carolina at Tampa Bay. The Panthers may have saved a sinking ship this past week and I look for them to pick up a road win 17-13. DeAngelo Williams scores 2 TD's for the victors. One of which will be an 80 yard or more run.

Washington gets a much needed win over struggling Kansas City 23-6. Clinton Portis rumbles for 100 yards and 2 scores.

Seattle looked great somehow in week 5 but Arizona figures out a way to get a key road win 24-20. Kurt Warner shows some signs of the player he was last year with 3 touchdown passes. This game could easily go the Seahawks way if the Cardinals turn the ball over early.

Philadelphia pounds Oakland 33-12 on the road in week 6. Donovan McNabb gets an early breather as the Eagles build a huge first half lead. Michael Vick tosses a touchdown pass in half number two of a game nobody cares about since Oakland is playing without any confidence right now.

Also in week 6 of the 2009 NFL season, New England outlasts Tennessee 27-13, the Jets cruise past Buffalo 19-3 and the Falcons hold off the Bears 28-24. Jay Cutler throws a key interception late as the Bears come back down to earth a bit. Matt Ryan is sharp once again in front of the home folks with 3 touchdown passes--all to different receivers.

That's it for my 2009 NFL Week 6 picks and predictions. We'll do it again next week for week 7.

I'm sorry, but honestly, if you think that the chargers are going to score 27 points on this Denver defense, then you really must have fallen on your head...
