2009 Nike Women's Marathon Opens Registration
Nike Women's Marathon 2009 Will Take Place in San Francisco, California, on Sunday, October 18th
The registration for the Nike Women's Marathon works a bit differently than some marathon races, in that runners register with the hope of competing. Once everyone has registered, there is a random drawing to decide the field, taking both individuals and groups from the pre-registered group of runners. The random drawing is done as a result of the popularity of the event, and because it is expected to sell out quickly, promoters thought it would be a good idea to give a level chance to all potential participants. Everyone who registers correctly by the March 18th midnight Pacific deadline will be in the drawing, and then the selections will be made by a computer.
For the race, there will be both a full marathon and a half marathon, with the split occurring at the 11 mile marker. 20,000 participants will be allowed in the event, and will take the runners through quite a scenic route of San Francisco. The Nike Women's Marathon will recognize and award the top three female runners to cross the finish line in both the full and half marathons. Each age group winner will also be recognized, with the groupings spread out for each 5 years of age (e.g. 20-24, 25-29 etc.). Upon completing the race, every participant will also receive a T-Shirt and a nice necklace designed by Tiffany & Co. To get signed up, the cost of the races are $100.00 for the half marathon, and $120.00 for the full marathon, which will be charged via credit card online.
The year's Women's Nike Marathon is definitely going to be an awesome race, and coupling it with the beautiful streets of San Francisco as a back-drop will make this a hot ticket for the racing season. Many events will also surround the big day, which include things like The Chocolate Mile, which could also be an attractive enticement for many participants. If you are a prospective runner that wants to sign up, get over to the central web-page (linked below) to ensure that you have the best possible chance at making the field.
