2009 Oscar Fashion: Academy Awards for Best Dressed Natalie Portman, Worst Dressed Whoopi Goldberg
Academy Award Fashion at the 2009 Oscars
The 2009 Oscars showcased the finest of Hollywood gowns and diamonds. Starlets such as Natalie Portman, Taraji Henson, Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz, Anne Hathaway, and Alicia Keys brought the best in style and high fashion.
Stars such as Jessica Biel, Beyonce, Sophia Loren, Whoopi Goldberg and Sarah Jessica Parker missed out on their red carpet moments by showing up in uncomfortable and unflattering Oscar gowns.
2009 Oscars Best Dressed List
Winner: Natalie Portman, in a purple, strapless dress. This dress looked so beautiful on Natalie Portman, the fit was perfect and the color choice went beautiful with her skin tone.
Another Oscar winner in purple fashion is Alicia Keys. I loved her presentation at the Oscars in this darker shade of purple, also strapless dress. Keys dress looked similar to Angelina Jolie's, but Jolie decided to go full black which may have been a mistake. A little bold color in the Oscar gowns is pretty to see.
Taraji Henson also took my breath away in her white Oscar dress. Henson wore a Roberto Cavalli gown, that was light and airy. It was Oscar high-class all the way.
Jennifer Aniston looked better than Angelina Jolie at the Oscars. Aniston wore a light colored gown, with some sparkle. She looked young, vibrant and even her hair looked great. Signature Jennifer Aniston, she can do no wrong on the red carpet.
Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain was a big Supporting Actress winner at the 2009 Oscars. Her Oscar gown was also a winner.
Anne Hathaway wore a sparkly Oscar gown by Armani Prive. Hathaway is very petite, this dress worked for her small frame.
2009 Oscars Worst Dressed List
Winner: Whoopi Goldberg. What happened to Whoopi? It was a huge fashion failure, even for an actress who is not known for dressing up. Whoopi looked like she ripped off leopard print curtains out of someone's trailer and wrapped it around her body.
Sophia Loren is a very talented Oscar winner. Her dress came from her 1960s closet and desperately wanted to go back in there. As much as I love Loren, and as much as I miss seeing her in great movies, her dress was not modern or good on Sophia Loren's aging body.
Jessica Biel looked uncomfortable in her pale dress. Biel's front of the dress had a large amount of material hanging down, and looking out of place. It was very distracting.
Beyonce came ready for a bull fight. Her matador outfit looked as if someone ruined a black dress with golden foil. Beyonce is known for beautiful red carpet gowns, we are not sure what happened at the Oscars.
Sarah Jessica Parker is our Sex In The City goddess, but what was she thinking with this Dior couture piece? Parker's Oscar gown looked uncomfortable, and it looked as if it was not made for her body at all. It was bridal gown gone wrong, and the skirt looked as if it caused a red carpet traffic jam. Bad choice for Sarah Jessica Parker, couture is sometimes not your friend.

Beyonce looks tackyy and so does her sister and patty g JENIIFER looks way bettet than ANGELINS okkk just cause she them lips...jennifer is a true beauty period ;)
;-);-)
Jennifer Aniston will never look better than Angelina Jolie, period. Let's get serious. Beyonce was beautiful. Alicia Keys had on a horrible wig.
I like Sophia Loren, hell I love her. She should have done better. Loren is more than an actress, she's a dame!
I totally agree that Natalie Portman was best dressed, most beautiful to look at. However, Aniston's gown was nothing extraordinary, like Jolie's, except Jolie's one was definitely more elegant. Would be nice to see Aniston wear her hair more than a bit different than usual. Ms Rotz, you are too cruel to Sophia Loren.
How could I forget? Frieda Pinto, to me, was the best. Lovely colour, inspired detailing...simply lovely. But, she's not an A-list star....so she gets forgotten. What can I say...
I have to say I agree wholeheartedly with your opinion. One knows one is correct about a star's look when one can look back one year from now and still think the same way about it. I find some media syncophants get carried away by the star's status and calls a "blah" gown as a hit when it definitely is not....Jolie's muu-mmus in previous awards for example. She looked better tonight, but from the waist down her gown is boring. Loved Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Jen Aniston, and Marissa Tomei's looks much improved from previous.
Great write up.
