Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Perhaps the most watched of the 2009 Academy Awards categories, the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category has strongly overshadowed the Best Actor in a Leading Role category. The reason? The front runner for Best Supporting Actor appears to be recently deceased actor Heath Ledger, for his role as the Joker in Dark Knight. Up against Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman for his role in Doubt, the competition is stiff. Still, expect Heath Ledger to win the Oscar posthumously.
Best Picture
The 2009 Academy Award Best Picture competition is especially fierce this year. Fan and critic favorite Slumdog Millionaire appears to be the clear front runner, but don't be surprised if The Reader, set in 1950's Germany, upsets the film, taking the top Oscar prize this year. Other nominees (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Milk, and Frost/Nixon)
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Always an Oscar category to watch, the 2009 Best Actress in a Leading Role don't disappoint. From Angelina Jolie, whose husband Brad Pitt was also nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role this year, in the powerful film Changeling to Meryl Streep in Doubt and Kate Winslet in The Reader, it's a virtual toss-up of who will walk away with the Oscar in hand. when filling in your printable 2009 Oscar ballot, stick with Winslet, who continues to turn out powerful performances (this is her 6th nomination) and may just leave the 2009 Academy Awards a winner this year.
With the 2009 Oscar Awards show just days away, whose predictions will ring true? Will the front runners win, or will an upset ensue? Whatever happens, this year's nominees were all in good company.
