2009 Pittsburgh Steelers Schedule Much Easier Than Last Season
What Games Are on the Slate for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009?
The Pittsburgh Steelers open the 2009 season with a game at home versus the Tennessee Titans-a fairly tough home opener by most standards. The game will be played on a Thursday night in the second week of September.
After Week 1, however, things get noticeably easier for the Pittsburgh Steelers, with games at the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, and Detroit Lions. All three games should result in Steeler victories. One game to look out for from this bunch is the game in Chicago, where the Pittsburgh Steelers will look to start a Jay Cutler-led offense that could put up more points than previous years. It should make for a great matchup.
The home games over that stretch are against San Diego, Cleveland, and Minnesota. San Diego could end up causing some minor problems for the defending Super Bowl Champs, as they are led by a strong armed quarterback in Philip Rivers and have two solid running backs in the backfield. They may give the Steelers some fits.
The Steelers have a bye week in Week 8.
Weeks 9, 10, and 11 all bring easy games for the Steelers, and they should go 3-0 over this period. Games at the Denver Broncos, vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, and at the Kansas City Chiefs should provide the Steelers with a great confidence boost going into the Baltimore Ravens game in Week 12 in Baltimore.
In weeks 13-15, the same kind of easy breathing stretch is there for the taking. The Steelers have games vs. the Oakland Raiders, at the Cleveland Browns, and vs. the Green Bay Packers.
The Steelers close out their season with a home game against the Baltimore Ravens, as well as a game in Miami. However, if they can take advantage of the easier matchups in their schedule, they will more than likely rest their players over this stretch.
The Steelers have five night games on the schedule, which should allow for continued national recognition. The team has a great roster core in place and should only continue to improve through the draft and free agency in the 2009 offseason. Steeler fans have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season.
