2009 Scary Story and Halloween Haiku Contest Winners

Happy Halloween!

James Kerley
Thanks to all who submitted to the Halloween themed creative writing contests! This was so much for fun for all of us, and we can't wait to do it again next year.

Without further ado, here are the winners:

Scary Story

Our guest judge, Nate Jordan from Monkey Puzzle Press, selected Heather Sonnier's short story, "The Dancing Corpses," as the winner of the scary story contest. This is truly a creepy tale that will be perfect for sharing this Halloween. Congratulations, Heather!

Nate wanted to give an honorable mention to two other stories: "After the Electrocution," by Laura White, and "The Nunnahee" by LA BYLINE. Great job!

We put all the names of those who entered the scary story contest into a novelty, oversized hat, and two randomly selected Contributors will receive $10 wild-card assignments: Sandra Peterson and Krista Brazeau had their names drawn. Congratulations!

Haiku

The Halloween haiku contest was a blast, and we had over 300 entries in just one day! Thank you to everyone who participated. Unfortunately, we could only pick one winner.

Congratulations to Rissa Watkins, for her haiku, "The Dead." She managed to scare the heck out of us in just 17 syllables!

Thank you to all who participated, and please join me in congratulating the winners!

Happy Halloween!

Thank you, AC James! Could this be added to the AC blog? I've tweeted some of the entries (still learning how Twitter effectively). Great contests!

Way to go and well done to all the winners and to everyone else who wrote a story or poem. A lot of great stories and poems to entertain and scare those who dared to read them. (evil laugh appropriate for Halloween). And thanks to Nate Jordan for giving his time to judge the scary story contest.
