2009 Spring Fashion Trends in Women's Pants

They're Not Your Boyfriend's Pants, or Are They?

Loraine Alkire
I think spring fashion for 2009 has turned out pretty well so far. There are some pretty sweeping changes as far as jeans and trousers are concerned.

It seems we have converted from skinny stick pencil jeans and turned an about face to jeans and trousers so big they might be your boyfriend's jeans. Or something beat up and weather washed that Gilligan let MaryAnn borrow. Some of them are so big they look like she might have borrowed them from the skipper. None-the-less, as we adjust our temperament, we will begin to look forward to jeans that don't show off our tramp stamp or thong underwear or bum crack.

Jeans

Jeans never stray too far from being jeans in that they made of denim but as any woman from 5 to 65 will tell you, they have to fit. And by that, we mean they have to fit by whatever standards everyone else's jeans are fitting. And this year it just may mean they don't fit at all. I'm talking about boyfriend jeans- they were coined boyfriend jeans by the fact that when you are wearing them they look big enough to be your boyfriend's jeans. These jeans are put out by a number of designers including, Calvin Klein's cropped, cuffed boyfriend jeans in crystal washFire Destroyed Boyfriend Lisa Ankle Jeans $44.00 ; and also by the likes of DKNY and Current Elliot or

Trousers

Big seems to be in the trouser Department as well. Take for instance Gap, they are touting "The New Pants" described as Hip Slung Trouser Pants, I really like these, at least on the model. Priced online at 54.50; J. Crew's spring fashion line includes slouchy chino trousers, they are loosely cuffed at the bottom, I could see myself in these.

Pants

Pants seem to have retained their form fitting status and don't seem to have changed terribly from last year, although I'm sure designers everywhere would want me beheaded for saying that. So here are a few examples of pants, you decided if they've changed so much, J. Crew- premium stretch bistro pant, Ann Taylor Loft-boot leg double weave pants.

Dress Slacks

Spring Fashion trends for dress slacks don't seem to be baggy a far as spring fashion trends go but many of them do sport quite large flared legs. Most have a fit at or just below the waist with wide waist bands. Thank you to the guru's of design everywhere, may we keep this trend for years to come.

I've been so irritated lately because I like to wear flare style pants but the trend seems to be going back toward skinny leg jeans. I went jeans shopping about a month ago and found only three pairs of flare-leg pants. Arrgh!

If it's published as "display only," you can edit it in "My Content." Click the E, just like Morag said. Anyway, it's going to be quite an adjustment getting used to baggy jeans again!
