2009 Stanley Cup Finals Winner Prediction

Nick Meyer
If I had to make one prediction about the winner of the 2009 Stanley Cup, I would say that the the winners of the Detroit-Anaheim and Pittsburgh-Washington series are the two teams most likely to make it to the Finals.

But the people want more than that so I will go ahead and predict the winner of the entire thing for this season.

2009 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Prediction

The Detroit Red Wings currently have their hands full with the 8th-seeded Anaheim Mighty Ducks in a series that pits the last two Stanley Cup winners against each other.

But in the end, the experience of goalie Chris Osgood will shine through for the Wings as he is one of the most underrated players of our time.

The Wings win this series in six games.

As for Washington and Pittsburgh, the Alex Ovechkin-Sidney Crosby matchup is a must-see for any true hockey fan, but in the end Washington's more balanced scoring lineup will lead them to the series win in seven games.

Stanley Cup Finals WinnerFinal Prediction

The Detroit Red Wings will eventually win out because they have two superstar-caliber players in the middle with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. Neither guy is quite at the level of Crosby or Ovechkin but they're both as close as it gets and they have an amazing chemistry to boot.

Repeating as Stanley Cup winner in the NHL is so hard because of all the lucky bounces the puck can take but the Red Wings are as loaded as any franchise we've seen in years and they will hoist the Stanley Cup again at the end of the 2009 playoffs.
